Kenneth Jay Lane is an American jewelry designer who worked for Vogue and Christian Dior before branching out into his own jewellery business.
Kenneth Jay Lane has hoards of celebrity fan. Because his career has been celebrated since the fifties his fans include classic Hollywood stars and the most glamorous women in the world such as Jackie Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor, and Audrey Hepburn. Kenneth Jay Lane's personal philosophy is that "elegance, good taste and luxury never go out of style", and his success in making this motto come true is reflected by his masses of current celebrity fans, for example Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker , the Olsen twins, Mischa Barton, Paris and Nicky Hilton, Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears.
This might have got you all thinking that such celebrated Jewellery is out of your price range, but luckily for us all Kenneth Jay Lane designs costume jewellery, making is affordable for those of us who don't pick up the Hollywood pay packet. Kenneth Jay Lane has made owning costume jewellery cool, not something to hide. Kenneth says "Women of all ages love costume jewelry because it's fun, it's fashionable, and it makes a woman feel younger". His vintage pieces have been sold by Christie's and Sotheby's and can fetch as much as precious metals and gems.
Cartier is famous for its 'Panthere de Cartier' range, and these tiger bracelets take inspiration from the Cartier panther bracelets. If you don't have £10k + to spend on a platinum, diamond and sapphire Cartier bracelet then the Kenneth Jay Lane option is very appealing!
This is a very elegant, statement bracelet. Two striking tiger heads meet at the bypass opening of this bold bangle bracelet. This Black and Tan, or White and Tan, Double Head Tiger Bangle is gold plated with the epoxy enamel tiger print including white, coral, gold and black colours.
The bangle has a spring hinge and is therefore really easy to take on and off. This comes in one size - measuring approximately 16cm on the internal circumference, which is said to fit the average wrist. I find it a little large, as I have a very narrow wrist, but it stills sits nicely and doesn't fall of.
This comes in a stylish presentation box - making it a nice present. Also comes with a Manufacturer's Certificate of Authenticity and a Lifetime Limited Manufacturer's Warranty.
I like the vintage vibe of these bracelets - they definitely retain some Hollywood glamour even in rainy Britain. Because the bracelets are quite large and stand out they also look modern, fun and fashionable. This mix of classic luxury and modern style is really hard to get right.
The original Tiger colour schemes are white or balck and tan, but Pink, Lavender and Turquoise Tigers are now available as part of the 'wild tiger' range.
Bracelet Bangles normally sell for about £70 - £100 but because the Tiger is now a past season you can pick one up on sale for about £50 at the moment if you hunt around a bit online - mine was £78 from spoliedbrat.co.uk and they are now selling it for £55.
*Where can I get it?*
I mentioned spoilbrat above - you can also pick up Kenneth Jay Lane pieces at ASOS, net-a-porter, and of course good old ebay. You can easily get Kenneth Jay Lane items from department stores in the US, but I never see it here - so I think online is your best bet.
From Feb the 13th Kenneth Jay Lane is going to be available on QVC UK. I can't wait to see the man himself selling his wares. US QVC sells Kenneth Jay Lane for bargain prices - about $55 for an animal bracelet (worth checking out buying from there even with the current bad exchange rate) - I hope these bargain prices come across the pond.
I had to shift my expectations down from Cartier (I wish!) to Kenneth Jay Lane, but if you want to get something a bit cheaper again there were some decent high street copies of this style around at the beginning of last summer. I got a nice Topshop snake for about £25. I just had a peek on ebay to see if any are selling are there are a few Topshop Tigers available for a few quid - I might have a little bid myself!
*I'm not sure about the Tigers - What else does Kenneth Jay Lane do*
Other animals bangles are available - snakes, alligators, elephants - they are all beautiful and come in a range of colours and patterns. Some come with Swavorski Crystals. I bought a snake bracelet as a gift and then worried than the recipient might not like its brash quality - but it was a great success. I'm forever getting complemented on these little beauties.
Even if you don't like the animals - and they are pretty bold - you should check out Kenneth Jay Lane's range because he really does make beautiful jewellery for women of all ages.
