“ Lola Rose / blue sandstone faceted bracelet. „
I was first introduced to Lola Rose a few years ago at House of Fraser and they had a very limited range of just a few earrings, bracelets and one necklace. At first I thought it was a bit big and too bold for me and didn't much like it all. Slowly though, as I saw more of it and different designs started to up, I started to like the range more and more.
I still don't partcularly like some of the very big necklaces, but I have become a real fan of the bracelets like this one and her earrings. My favourate Lola Rose piece I own is one her the hearts on a suede cord.
I purchased this bracelet in a sale and got 20% off the price, which I thought brought it down to a very good for a Lola Rose piece. I have this in the Mookite option and it is truely stunning. The colours are amazing and no two parts of the bracelet look the same and yet they all match so well.
This bracelet is very comfortable to wear although can be a little snug if you have slightly larger wrists. Because the stones are smooth, it glides around and up and down, unlike some bracelets that can actually catch on the skin and be a bit uncomfortable.
I am a huge fan of Lola Rose now and think that her products are well made and very good quality. You do pay a bit more, but when you get it, you can see what your paying for.
I would recommend Lola Rose as a range to anyone who likes big jewellery and wants good quality and something a bit different.
This Lola Rose bracelet was something I bought for myself with my birthday money this year. I hadn't gone out looking to buy this bracelet and hadn't really seen any Lola Rose jewellery in the shops till I found this. Once I spotted this in Mulberry Hall in York I had to have it I was immediately drawn to it like a magpie because of its blue glittering star like qualities.
Who is Lola Rose?
Designer Nikki Gewirtz is the lady behind Lola Rose jewelry. She founded Lola Rose in May 2000 with just one design, the "tumble stone bracelet". It was snapped up by several high-end London stores including Harvey Nichols and the company went from strength to strength from this point onwards. Lola Rose is now recognized as one of the leading brands in fashion jewelry and is often worn by stars when they step out on the red carpet. Celebrity fans of Lola Rose jewellery include Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry and Sarah Jessica Parker. All Lola Rose jewelry is created from the finest semi-precious stones available. These included amethyst, turquoise, jade, rose quartz and mother-of-pearl, amongst others.
The various Lola Rose designs have a striking simplicity to them and are often designed with nature in mind, for example daisies on bracelets. Their simplicity makes them the ideal accessory for all kinds of looks however I personally feel because this is often chunky jewelry it is best to only wear only one bracelet at a time as I think if you wear several it would detract from the beauty of each item. As each design is crafted from natural stone, no two pieces of Lola Rose jewelry are exactly the same due to different patterns within the stones. The jewelry has a tactile quality to it as well.
What does it look like
This bracelet has 13 faceted blue sand stone nuggets or ovals depending on which term you prefer. They are dark blue in colour with a lovely glittery appearance to them. The outside of each stone is faceted this means that each stone has been cut multiple times and each surface is then polished to reflect the light and accentuate the inner sparkle of the sandstones. The back of the stones is flat so that it sits comfortably on our wrist. Each stone is threaded twice on to dark blue on what I can only describe as elastic.
Prior to buying this bracelet I had never encountered blue sandstone before in fact sandstone to me meant country cottages! When trying to find out about this stone for the review I found very little information about the stone. One article seems to crop up again and again. It appears that blue sandstone is a type of quartz. The reason for calling it sandstone is because it is a combination of sand and quartz. This combination gives this semi precious stone its dark blue and nearly purple colour. It's some of the sand within the stone gives it the beautiful glittering quality and it is that which that drew my eyes to the bracelet. As some people think where semi precious gems and crystals have health and spiritual meanings and benefits this was all I could find on the search of the Internet I did "The brilliant stars shining in the dark blue sky bring courage, confidence and willpower and boost vitality and energy".
I have to admit I was totally enraptured by this bracelet from the first time I saw it. This was for many different reasons. It is a beautiful dark blue I would say it's virtually midnight blue which is not a color I have seen very often in accessories. As I wear blue a lot of the time I knew it would go with a lot of the items within my wardrobe. What intrigued me was the glittering and star like quality that the bracelet has I have never seem anything like it prior to buying this bracelet. The sparkle makes it look like there is a multitude of stars in the night sky on your wrist. Every time it catches the light it shines in a fabulous way because of this people have often commented about "where did I get it from" and how attractive and striking it is.
The stone when you put it on feels very cool on your skin and takes an hour or so to get to body temperature. In a strange way this feels quite nice as somehow in my mind I think it cools you down. If you are the nervous sort about a social situation I imagine this cools your wrists down in the same way that some of those pulse point creams for nerves you can buy do, but this is much prettier and the smell doesn't interfere with your perfume! I am guessing here but that is maybe why they say this stone is good for giving courage and confidence.
This bracelet is threaded by two strands of elastic, when it sits upon my wrist none of the elastic shows. Even if some were to show the elastic has been very carefully matched to the same dark blue as the stone. The size of this bracelet is medium and I believe you can get a larger one if you so choose. The bracelet sits nicely on my wrist and is neither so tight that I can only wear it for brief periods or so loose that it jangles. As I am a size 16 in ladies clothes this should give you an idea of my wrist size. I think I am what is referred to in all the magazines as average for the UK so for most women this size bracelet would be suitable.
They say that Lola Rose jewelry goes with a multitude of outfits. Personally I think this bracelet would look wonderful with an evening dress or a dark blue bridesmaid outfit. As since my son was born the likelihood of me going to a ball has reduced significantly I wear this with some blue Per Una gypsy style tops when going out for meals or out with friends. I think it also accentuate well a nice work skirt and top outfit that is if you work in an environment where jewelry is allowed and dressing smart casual is the dress code.
Care and cleaning
When I asked about how this should be cleaned I was told in the shop if it needs it "which it shouldn't" just use soap water to remove anything if it got stuck to the bracelet. But bar this because it is a polished stone it should never lose its luster. The bracelet comes in a pretty pink pouch made of soft material and ties shut with some ribbon. I personally have kept it in this in my jewelry box and find that this suits it fine and stops it getting tangled with other jewelry items.
Price and availability
I bought this from Mulberry Hall in York for £49. When looking on the Internet for this review I found the bracelet available from the Lola Rose website for the same price or from Amazon for £71.75 so my advice would be shop around for the best price. QVC also regularly stocks Lola Rose jewelry so their website would be worth a visit. Though for this review I have talked about the blue sandstone version it is also available in 13 other types of semi precious stone including black agate, lavender quartzite and eye stone.
Would I buy again and recommend this
In a word yes I love my bracelet I think it is striking and unusual. I think this is a well made piece of jewelry and that I will be still wearing it in the years to come thus making it a good investment. I have now started to look around for a matching pendant or necklace ready to drop hints for Christmas to my darling husband.
