Advantages: Good source of nutrients, fresh juice
Disadvantages: Expensive, makes alot of waste, nightmare to clean
Having randomly seeing this particular Juicer in a catalogue one day, my mum decided she wanted one. At the time it retailed at around £110, which is quite expensive for an unessential appliance that probably wouldn't be used. She bought it anyway despite our best efforts of convincing her otherwise.
We've had the juicer now for about 2 years, and our predictions were spot on. At first it was used on a regular basis for about 2 or 3 months, and then the novelty wore off, now it sits collecting a hefty pile of dust in our kitchen. The reasons for this however, of which I'll explain in due course, do not lie with the Juicer itself, but with juicers in general. But for now I'll list its good points.
The juicer separates the juice from fruit and vegetables, and disposes of the fibre-packed pulp in the process (into another compartment). My parents particularly liked the aspect of the many health benefits the juicer offered, i.e. nutrients, enzymes, vitamins.
Before buying the Juicer, we frequently purchased Juice from our local supermarket. Having tasted them both, there is no comparison; nothing tastes quite like fresh juice. Even avoiding Juice made 'from concentrate', shop-bought juice, though providing some nutrition, is certainly a far cry from the real thing.
The Juicer spout is considerably bigger than most juicers, which saves the irritating process of having to cut up your ingredients prior to use. (We tested this by shoving large apples in - and hey presto! It worked). In terms of power, the motor in the Juicer, is incredibly strong, meaning the fruit is almost completely drawn from it's juices, and with a capacity of 67.65 oz you'll never be without a large supply of fresh juice.
I have to admit, we all started to get carried away as there are so many different variations to try. Two favourites of mine are: firstly a berry medley of strawberries (2 cups), blueberries (2 cups) and raspberries (1 ½ cups) and secondly a lemony apple recipe which uses 2 apples, 1 lemon, 1 small slice of ginger.
Moving on to the negatives, there were numerous faults with the Juicer. Firstly in terms of price, the appliance is quite expensive for an appliance that has such a small purpose. It is also quite bulky on our work surface (measuring at around Height: 42.5 cm x Width: 32 cm x Depth: 21 cm) and is quite heavy at 6kg. The noisiness is quite irritating, but it's only used in short periods and should be expected with a motor power of 450 Watts!
In my honest opinion, it also seems a shame to repeatedly feed huge amounts of fruit into a juicer to make a smaller supply of juice, and then dispose of the pulp produced in the process. Surely it works out healthier to simply eat the fruit in all its natural glory?
The worst criticism however, involves the nightmare task of having to clean out this machine of evil, after each single use. There are four main parts to take apart and clean, the worst nightmare is the thin wire mesh that separates and collects the pulp when in use, which is easier when using the brush included, I recommend also that you clean it out as soon as possible, as the longer left the harder it is to clean. In a household to which the extent of our chores rarely exceeded tidying our rooms (parents excluded) this mission was unbearable, and all hope of us ever using it again were gone, despite its good points.
So ultimately, in terms of quality, efficiency, ease of use, and an excellent supply of nutrients then I definitely recommend this item, that is however if you don't mind the expense and amount of cleaning involved.
Summary: Would recommend if you dont mind the cleaning!
