Advantages: fresh healthy juice

Disadvantages: messy, clogs easily, annoying to assemble

Talk about a nightmare scenario. Jack Lalanne, a big fitness guru is endorsing this juicer which promises more than it really delivers. In the end, you're better off settling for an ordinary juicer which works just as well if not better and costs much less.

We bought this Juicer from Macy's for $100. Once we got it home, assembling it was annoying. So we were ready to use it. It promises you can throw in whole fruits or veggies and the machine'll juice them without trouble - what a huge lie. If you throw in a whole fruit, chances are the juicer will jam. If you didn't peel a ripe fruit, the juicer will jam. The pulp is still loaded with sweet juices that are never drained out. Disassembling it is a pain in the neck then cleaning all the parts or trying to figure out the cause of the jam will only hinder you from enjoying the juice you're trying to make.

We tried all kinds of things - apples, mangoes, peaches, beets, carrots, strawberries, etc. Overall it worked well with many of them but things like carrots and beets had to be cut up into much smaller pieces.

The drainage system itself is messy. The juice comes gushing out and sprays everywhere.

We also own a Hamilton Beach Juicer which we got as a gift. We wanted to compare the Lalanne Juicer and I'd say in terms of juice quality and pulp, they're the same. The Hamilton Beach brand is much easier to set up and clean and doesn't clog as easily and will save you like $30.00!

The Jack Lalanne juicer is just too messy and frustrating to work with because it jams too often. Don't waste your money on this when you can get cheaper alternatives! You're not getting more juice, just more hassle. The first day we bought it, the motor burned out and we had to return it. We're much happier with the Hamilton Beach juicer.

Summary: The Jack Lalanne juicer is no better than other brand juicers so avoid it.

The user manual warns you not to leave mango skin on because that will jam the juicer - its perfectly fine if its peeled.

Also, yes, the parts are dish washer safer. For the most part its just plastic with the stainless steel spinning disc that shreds up the things you put into it.

In terms of noise, yes, its noisy.. but I live in NY and I see a lot of of tourists coming and covering their ears in the subway because they can't stand the sound of a train pulling into the station, yet it doesn't bother me at all. The juicer won't make an ear shattering sound, just a typical blender type sound plus you also hear the grinding of the fruits of vegetables.

Good info here although it would be handy to know if it is noisy, any dishwasher safe parts and if assembling it is difficult or hard.

Having had the same model now for quite a few years nothing jams in mine and you're not supposed to juice Mangoes as it clearly tells you this in the user manual.
