“ Brand: Kenwood / Power: 25 Watts / Capacity: 27.05 oz „
We have an actual juicer, one that is big and works fast. But that one needs a lot of cleaning and if I just want a glass of fresh orange juice there is no point in mucking up the big juicer when ewe have this simple to use easy to clean citrus juicer. I just cut on orange in half and press it flesh side down on to the juicer. Don't expect loads of juice from this machine it's just like those old fashioned glass citrus juicer the only difference is it turns inside the fruit rather than you having to twist the fruit back and forth yourself. The juice trickles done into the base ready for you to pour out into your glass using the little spout. This will work well on oranges, Lemons, limes, and grapefruit. And I add a little lemon to my orange juice for that little bit of zing. I don't need to add much pressure it is more a case of holding it in place and pressing down gently. It makes a bit of noise but not too much. If i happen to apply too much pressure I can hear the motor struggling to turn. The power cord is long enough to stretch across my counter top but you do need to be right by the power socket.
This can not be put in the dishwasher but the parts wash up easily in the sink. The motor part doesn't get dirty and you must NOT put this near water as it is the electric part. If it does get a splash or two just Give it a light wipe with a damp cloth because of the White plastic finish any splashes will wipe off very easily. The juice collector tray is removable as is the top section that twirls under the fruit and collects any pips. There is a clear cover to go on top when it's not in use this keeps it clear from dust and this also can be washed in the sink using hot soapy water. The fact that this is White makes it look dated alongside our other silver appliances so we keep this in the kitchen press when not in use. This is a great alternative to the big bulky juicer, it's compact, simple to use and easy to clean.
~Kenwood JE260 juices fresh fruit in a flash!~
When I wanted a super quick and less messy way to get freshly squeezed fruit juices in a flash that could be used for baking and making all kinds of home made meals that required freshly squeezed juice in their recipe, I eventually purchased a Kenwood JE260 Juicer that I hoped would do the job. The unit is compact and neat to look at and easy to handle when in use, with it being a very simple item to set up when it is needed, as well as being equally easy to clean and put away after use, with it coming with it's own dust cover.
Where as the other larger, full on super duper fruit juicing machine I bought to make copious amount of fresh juice and fabulous smoothies had died a death rather too quickly after purchase ( as part of it snapped off - whoops!) this little item seemed sturdy enough to stand up to being a handy gadget to use when needing fresh juices for cooking etc, as it had less parts that could fail and possibly go wrong. The juicer is both light at just under 0.75kg and compact at roughly 17 x 19 x 14, having a simple shape to it that makes it easy to handle and transport from one area of the kitchen to another.
~What fruits can I juice with this?~
The juice holding capacity of the product is small but not tiny, at around 0.8 litres and the motor has just 20 watts of power, meaning that this isn't going to juice it's way through everything in your fruit bowl at the speed of light, although it will get there in the end. What it has in it's favour is its simply operating system, it's compact size and it's ability to allow you to juice a lemon/ orange etc without the need for peeling to produce a fair amount of juice with less mess left over than when I have used other fruit juicing products. I have used this juice maker with fruits such as grapefruits, oranges, lemons, limes and have tried to juice a cut in half an apple with it too, although that wasn't as successful as I thought it might be at the time it did produce some juice (and lots of mess!).
~Ease of use/ cleaning/ storage~
After the horrors of spending ages chopping up bits of fruit and taking the stones/ seeds out of them in order to juice them to within an inch of their lives in the larger, now broken juicer I still have lurking in a cupboard somewhere, only to end up with minimal amount of fresh juice after all that effort, this little gadget actually does allow you to get freshly squeezed fruit juice with less stress and mess. There are a few points to make however about the product as it isn't meant to be placed in to a dishwasher for washing/ cleaning as it is not listed as being dishwasher safe. This isn't really too much of an issue as the parts that make up the juicer are easy to wash and clean by hand, with nothing really being too fiddly to get to.
When you have juiced every piece of fruit you have to hand to within an inch of it's life and filled the juice holder beneath the top section, you can simply remove that part of the juicer and pour out as much or as little juice as you need as there is a spout shaped section, which works well and directs the freshly squeezed juice in to a jug or bowl rather than on to your kitchen work tops.
The juicer also has just one speed setting which is perhaps to be expected as the motor is small and this isn't really the type of product you would be using to juice every type of fruit known to man in so as to make litres and litres of fresh juice or smoothies. The simply formed top part of the juicer will allow you to place half of a piece of cut fruit like a lemon/ orange etc, on to the top which is shaped like a traditional hand juicer. This makes for a quick and simple way to juice fruit with just a light and even pressure required on the top of the piece of fruit so as to allow the juicer to set to work making juice.
The downside to this product is that it hasn't had as much use as I thought it would when I first bought it, so it does spend most of it's time tucked away in the cupboard, only seeing the light of day every once in a while. As the juicer is smaller than many other juice making gadgets storing it away between uses isn't too much hassle as it is compact enough to fit in to a smaller space in an already filled to the brim kitchen cupboard and can be set up for use after a quick rinse in clean water in a very short time, without taking up too much space on a worktop or unit.
~Summary and rating~
Over all this little juicer does work well and for around £20 it did offer good value for money at the time of purchase. When working with the product the quick and easy set up time is a bonus point and as the product comes as a series of white plastic parts such as the main motor unit, a collecting/ pouring juice bowl, a shaped juicing section (that spilts in 2 for washing) and finally a clear plastic dust protector/ lid that can be quickly washed and wiped down after use, it really is easy to clean after use. In terms of rating the product I feel it is worthy of a 4 star rating, as it works as it should and is much easier to maintain and set up than many of the larger more bulky and fiddly products you can buy which do a similar job less efficiently.
