Advantages: Produces really delicious fresh juice
Disadvantages: Hard to clean the sieve and wastes a lot of fruit and veg
I haven't been overly impressed with this juicer. I should point out here that I haven't tried any other juicer and I think to be honest, it's juicers in general that I don't like. But I'm afraid, this is the one I have, so this is the one that will feel my wrath!!!
You have to cut fruit and veg up pretty small in order to fit them in the aperture at the top. This is quite time-consuming, especially as you need such a large quantity of fruit and veg to make just one glass of juice.
The juice comes out pretty neatly I guess but it doesn't just go in the glass, bits run down the sides as well. This might be me not paying enough attention though!
The biggest downside for me, and this applies to all juicers, is the amount of fruit and veg pulp that is caught in the sieve. I know it means the juice is smooth but it seems like such a huge waste. I usually sit there with a spoon and eat it up just for the vitamins!
Also it's a nightmare to clean. The sieve part on ours is permanently grubby because no matter how much a soak and scrub it, the holes are just so small that inevitably there are still bits stuck to it that you just can't clean off.
The final result is delicious and healthy but surely a blender would be better and you could have a smoothie with all the pulp still in it, which is far healthier and there's less waste.
Summary: It's pretty time-consuming and a waste of all the goodness in the bulk of fruit and veg

- 05/08/08 Good review on the actual juicer part although it would be good to know how much it cost and if its noisy or not?
A blender however is only suitable for some fruits and vegetables whereas a juicer gets it all in one go and thus separates the mess such as oranges. The purpose of the bins where the pulp goes doesn't mean it has to be chucked out and most people either use it up in recipes, soups etc. |
