Advantages: Simple design, easy to clean and operate.

Disadvantages: Not ideal for heavy use, basic, small funnel at the top of the juicer.

I have had little experience of juicers in the past, but I bought the Kenwood JE56 Juice Extractor after the first few hot days of Summer this year. Drinking ice cool fresh juices in the Sun is unbeatable, as I had previously experienced on exotic holidays in the past. Affordably priced at around £30 and from a well-known brand I remained modest in my expectations due to the basic design and spec on the packaging. Upon removing the juicer from the box I felt it was of a reasonable size, it came with a reasonable length of wire and the crome design set it apart from other models I had looked at which were generally cheap looking with their white plastic finish. Overall the simple lines and quality finish leaves you with a rather stylish kitchen gadget!

To use the juicer I simply plug it into the mains and start juicing! The one minor annoyance is that the hole at the top of the juicer into which you put your fruit isn't that generous, so I do need to chop the fruit up into small chunks. This isn't too time consuming though, but it isn't ideal. The clear plastic body of the juicer allows you to see how things are progressing, and the juicer soon makes light work of anything you throw into it! The juicer has two speeds and I wouldn't say it is quite as powerful as juicers I have seen at my friends' houses. The instructions supplied with the juicer informed me that most fruits can be juiced using this juicer, including tougher fruit such as pineapple.

The juicer obviously extracts juice from the fruit, and leaves you with the pulp which cannot get through the filter. As the juicer isn't as effiecient as it could be, I often squeeze a bit more juice from the 'waste', this can also be used for cooking and especially when baking cakes. There are three sections to the juicer, the main chrome body of the juicer must be cleaned by hand due to it containing the motor and obviously the flex. The lid is then easily removed and either washed by hand or in the dishwasher, likewise with the clear plastic block that is used for pushing the fruit into the juicer.

Overall I am more than happy to recommend the kenwood JE356 Juice Extractor to anyone looking for a simple to operate and basic juicer to make easy and very fresh juice. I am not a big fruit eater, but with this juicer I am consuming a lot more fruit which gives me a healthier option. With such a compact design it is ideal for those that won't use the juicer very often, as it takes up very little room either on the workspace or in a cupboard.

Summary: Value for money basic juicer from a trusted brand.
