Kenwood JE356 Juicer Extractor
Advantages: Fresh juice tastes amazing, juicer is lovely looking
Disadvantages: Loads of waste, fiddly, messy.
I bought the Kenwood JE356 Juicer when it was on special offer for £20 about a year ago. I had always wanted a juicer to make fresh fruit juice but had never got around to buying one and when I saw this for such a great price I decided to treat myself to it.
Other than the price what sold me on this juicer was its looks as it is very good looking. It is made from chrome and has a black trim. The shape is very modern and I thought it would look sleek and sexy on my worktop and would help give my kitchen a more expensive modern look.
Although it looks fantastic I found myself only using it a few times as it was a frustrating experience to use.
To use the juicer you just need to remove the top part and put the fruit in it and then push it down to squeeze the juice from the fruit.
The hole where you put the fruit is tiny and it means that you have to spend ages cutting everything up small enough to put it in which is time consuming and annoying. I would much have preferred one that had a bigger hole which allowed to just shove big lumps of fruit in as if you are trying to make juice on a regular basis then it soon becomes tedious having to cut everything up so much.
Once the fruit is in the hole however it juices quickly and easily and it has two different speeds to use depending on whether you are using soft fruits such as oranges or hard fruits such as pineapples.
Fresh juice tastes amazing but it is expensive to use this machine. It takes around 6 apples or oranges to make one small glass of juice and then you are left with loads of pulp as well.
My biggest gripe about this juicer though has to be the spout where the juice comes out. It is so badly designed and is far to close to the body of the juicer and when you are trying to pour the juice it dribbles all down the glass and the juicer and onto the worktop which not only makes a mess but considering it takes so much fruit to make a glass of juice it is just more waste.
Cleaning the juicer is easy and it comes apart and the pieces can be run under the tap with the exception of the main part which houses the electric motor which has to be wiped clean with a cloth.
I definitely wouldn't recommend this juicer other than if you just want a nice looking gadget for your worktop. It is expensive and fiddly to make a glass of juice and messy to pour it when you do. It might taste nicer but I would prefer to just buy myself a carton of juice from Tesco than be bothered to use this all the time.
Summary: A nice looking juicer but too many problems with it to recommend
