Advantages: Plenty of juice, quite easy to use
Disadvantages: Noisy and tricky to clean
My mum is a health freak like me and for Christmas, my sister and I received this juicer from her, along with a long list of juice recipes and their benefits. I'd never given much thought about juicing before since I didn't have time to spare, but I have to say that this juicer was much quicker and more efficient than I imagined it would be. The only thing that takes time is the cleaning bit- but otherwise, it's really quick to make a tall glass of juice. It's also very easy to use- which again leads to saving time. I would even say that it's easy enough to use even for people who are in a hurry in the morning.
You literally only have to dump the fruit in and it comes out as juice on the other side. Someone from the company came to give mum a demonstration when she purchased around seven of these juicers and he said that it wasn't necessary to wash the fruit/vegetables since the outer part get crushed and has to be thrown away- but I personally prefer to wash it first. Using it is extremely easy: You have to set it up by correctly placing the small bin at the back and the bit to collect the juice in the front. I have to admit that it took me quite some time to learn how to assemble it the first time, but after that it got much easier. Then, you have to put the fruit/vegetables in the long tube and close it while pressing the button to crush it all. What I don't like, however, is that the tube is not that large so sometimes I have to cut fruits like apples and oranges in half before I can fit it in. Philips claims that this has an extra large tube where you can put your fruit in without cutting, but personal experience taught me that this works only for really small fruit! However, on the positive side, there's no need to peel the fruit which is fine by me. During the juicing process, the juice slides down in the beaker and the remaining crushed pulp gets thrown in the bin which is at the back. I personally saw that placing a plastic/paper bag inside the bin makes it easier to clean afterwards since I only have to remove and throw the bag full of crushed pulp away and just rinse the bin a bit.
The tough cleaning part, however, is with the tube. It contains a metal juicer with plenty of blades and tricky corner and since the fruit gets crushed with it, you can guess how quickly it can get dirty. I found that using a toothbrush (clean of course) is a really rapid and efficient manner to clean that particular bit since the bristles get between the blades and clean everything out. The rest of the juicer remains relatively clean so I only wipe it with soapy water. When I'm in a hurry in the morning, I just juice the fruit/veggies and put the juicer to soak so I can wash it when I get back in the afternoon.
This one is supposed to juice your fruits/vegetables to the maximum since according to Philips; it even draws out the juice from the peel. I have no idea if peel juice is really included in my glass, but I can certainly say that plenty of juice does come out: Only this morning I used half a cucumber, two oranges and two apples and I was pleasantly surprised to see that I got around two and a half (tall and wide) glasses of juice. The crushed pulp is also very, very dry when it comes out at the other end so you can see that it definitely draws maximum juice out.
What I will deplore, however, is that this juicer can get rather noisy so other people living with you might not appreciate being drawn out of their sleep early morning!
This is also dishwasher safe and comes with a micro mesh filter. You have to however, dissemble it before putting it in the dishwasher, which is why I prefer cleaning it by hand. The speed setting can go up to really fast but I personally prefer slower settings since it's less noisy. It also is a little heavy and I definably would not say that this is suitable for travelling.
But overall, I will certainly recommend this juicer. This is my first one so I cannot really compare it to the others, nor can I guarantee that it's the best out there. But I can definitely say from personal experience that it's fast and efficient and if you use a toothbrush and soapy water, it's also very quick and easy to clean.
