Peppa Pig: George's First Day at Playgroup - Ladybird
by emmad5689
I picked this book up in Asda when my youngest daughter spotted it whilst out shopping, the book was on sale when they were having their character promotion and costs us £3 which seems a decent value price to me. Our Asda no longer sells the book but not sure if any of the bigger stores do although you can buy the book online at ... Amazon.
The books are from Ladybird and is part of a series which looks at everyday life for children, we already have the first pet book in the series so I knew what we would be getting with the book, I think the whole idea of the range is really god as it helps introduce new ideas to young children whilst they enjoy a story. The front cover of the book is brightly coloured and shows George standing on a stool painting a picture.
Emily really used to love Peppa Pig so as soon as she saw the book she wanted it although she still likes Peppa Pig we have moved more over to Minnie Mouse now. The book is about the first day that George joins his sister Peppa at their playgroup which is quite apt for us as Emily will be starting a play group shortly once she turns 3. The book begins with George and Peppa in the car been driven by Daddy, on the way to the playgroup Daddy explains that George is now old enough to go to the group with Peppa. George goes to the playgroup and he meets all Peppa's friends and the Teacher Madam Gazelle, Peppa tries to teach George how to paint a picture and he paints himself a dinosaur, the story finishes with the parents returning to pick up the children.
The book is aimed at younger children with only a sentence or so on each page, the pages are easy for little hands to turn and the pictures are all bold and in nice bright colours. Emily loves books and she will sit for ages going from one book to another flicking the pages and telling herself a story, she enjoys pointing out the characters in this one and naming them. When we read it I tell her she will be going to playgroup soon which she replies "boys" to as it is all girls in our family so the only young boys she has come across was at a crèche she went to.
I think this is a decent book and will appeal to a lot of children as it is based around a television character, Emily enjoys the book and for any child starting a nursery or playgroup it helps to introduce the idea. The book is sturdy for little hands and was brilliant value so I give it 5 stars. Read the complete review |

Peppa Pig: Fairy Tale Little Library - Lauren Holowaty
by emmad5689
My youngest daughter really liked Peppa Pig last year and so for her second birthday I out together a Peppa Pig hamper for her and this was one of the items that I put into it. I get the set from Amazon for £3.74 and delivery was free, I have seen a couple of different Peppa Pig library sets but only seen the fairy tale one on ... Amazon.
The set of 6 books comes in a little case which is made of glossy cardboard, one the front of the book holder you have a picture of Peppa Pig stood at the front with a wand and then there is a picture of a castle in the distant background. The spines of all 6 books can be seen, they are all different colours, you get yellow, orange, pale blue, green, pink and purple and if they are in the box in the correct order you are able to see a picture of a horse.
The books titles are,
Princess Peppa,
The Royal Party,
The King the Cook and the Wizard,
George's Dragon,
Sleepy Princess and
Sir George the Brave
The books are about 3 inches square and they are little board books great for little hands, the books all have rounded corners so no sharp edges for little hands. The books all have a picture on the back of them and when you piece the 6 books together you make a picture of George on a toy horse and Princess Peppa stood in front of him.
The stories are all very short and only have 4 double pages in them, the text in most of the books is written in little bubbles like clouds and the text is pretty small. The books are all brightly coloured and they bring in the majority of the characters from the TV show, the whole Pig family is involved in the books as are all of Peppa's friends.
Emily loves these books, she cannot manage to get them in and out the holding box by herself but once you get them out for her she will happily sit for ages flicking through all the books and pointing to and naming the different characters, once she gets bored she will bring me or her Daddy the books to be read to her and even her older sister is having a try of reading them to her now. The set was fantastic value and I would give it 5 stars from 5, Emily got these books in September and she still plays with them frequently so I can certainly say they are a hit with her. I am Too Absolutely Small for School Charlie and Lola - Lauren Child
by sparkleychel
== I Am Too Absolutely Small For School ==
== Lauren Child ==
I am too absolutely small for school is a book from author Lauren Child that features the characters Charlie and Lola . Lauren started writing books about Charlie and Lola back in 2000 with the 1st Charlie and Lola book being I will not ever ... eat a tomato. She has won numerous awards, and her books have sold over 3 million copies over 19 countries.
Charlie and Lola was adapted for BBC Television into the popular Charlie and Lola cartoon and is available on dvd.
The R.R.P. of the book is £5.99 but is always cheaper on amazon and in supermarkets.
Charlie and Lola are brother and sister and although parents are mentioned they are not seen in the stories. The focus is on the children and their friends. Charlie is an 8 year old boy and Lola is his 5 year old sister.
== The Book ==
The book is published by Orchard Press and is a large paperback measuring 27 cms by 24 cms and has 32 full colour pages .
Each story is told by Charlie and starts the same way with I have this little sister called Lola , she is small and very funny ...
This story is that it's time for Lola to start school , but she's not too sure . Firstly she uses the excuse she is too busy doing important things at home to go to school . So Charlie asks her wouldn't she like to learn how to count to 100 , Lola's reply is she can count to 10 , she has 10 fingers and 10 toes and never eats more than 10 biscuits in one go so there is no need . This page comes with a lovely illustration of 10 different biscuits , including party rings and pink wafers and is one of my daughters favourites.
Next Charlie tries to persuade Lola asking if she would like to learn to write letters. Lola tells him she would much rather speak on the telephone .
Lola then uses her imaginary friend Soren Lorensen as an excuse not to go to school, until Charlie informs her Soren Lorensen will be going too . Charlie uses various ways to make school sound fun , but Lola is still a little nervous
And so the day comes , Charlie is worried as Lola is quiet on the way to school ,so he looks for her at the end of the day , but she's not in her classroom and she's not by her peg because she's skipping along with somebody else her new friend Lotta .
Lola then explains it wasn't her that was nervous it was Soren Lorensen all along , she was absolutely fine !
The story is wrote and illustrated beautifully , sometimes rhyming but always flows in what i call a 'sing song way' and is perfect for young children . The language is fun and very child friendly . My daughter is now able to read these books herself.
== Thoughts ==
We first started buying Charlie and Lola books for our son who is now 10 , and now they have been passed down to my daughter, and added too so she has quite a collection. We bought this particular book just before she started school . It's a nice easy going book that's a lot of fun, and a nice way to prepare them for school without being too formal or scary.
I love the relationship between Charlie and Lola with Charlie being a very patient and understanding brother and always being very kind to his sister, sharing things, and looking after her .
All in all a great Charlie and Lola book, with the added bonus of the story being about starting school , if that's something your child will be embarking on .
5 out of 5 , too absolutely fabulous ! Read the complete review |
