Advantages: A good bedtime story
Disadvantages: A little short and pricey
A beautifull story outlining the unconditional love between a mother and her child. Anything for you, is wriiten by British author and self taught artist John Wallace. Although in this instance John has not illustrated this story, the illustrations here have been done in a quite romantic fashion by Harry Horse and published by well known Puffin.
The story itself is about a little bear named Charlie who wants to do nothing more than help his mother. He tried to help with the garden, he tried to help by doing some digging, he tried to help by collecting some apples, but all little Charlie made was a mess.
Charlie tried to help tidy the house, but just made an even bigger mess.
Charlie's mother runs Charlie a bath and asks Charlie to get in, to which Charlie replies "Id do anything for you",
What Charlie doesn't realise is ofcourse the whole day he has spent helping his mother has tired him out and after his bath time he is very tired indeed. With Charlie now all dried after his bath, Charlie tries to convey to his mother just how much she means to him and what he would do for her by exclaiming "I'd smile my biggest smile for you", and "give you all my money".
With Charlie now exhausted his mother asks Charlie to get into bed for her, which Charlie is only too happy to do as he would do "anything" for his mum. Before you know it Charlie is asleep.
Some very nice sentiments expressed here with the help of the illustrations which are very large and consume nearly all of the pages. I think this is a very nice bedtime story, and if only children always did as they were told all of the time!!!
Page wise, there are 32 pages in all, which as I have said before seems to be the average amount for young childrens's picture books. This book is recommended for children between the ages of 4-8 years. Word wise though, this is quite a short story and even though the illustrations are easy to follow alot of the text
will not be understood by new readers.
Price wise, the recommended retail price of this hardback book is £9.99, a little pricey, however you can purchase on Amazon for alot less. Currently Amazon are out of stock of this book but are offering it for sale by private sellers starting at £0.90 pence, what a bargain.
The author John Wallace, has now written many other children's picture books including; The little bean series of books and the Mr Bumble series also, definately worth a look out for.
