The story of Babar the elephants pursuit of fitness

Here is another on of my 'blasts from the past' This one dates back to nineteen-mumble-something-or-another. Well no-one likes to give their age away, but glad to say it was post-decimalisation. It cost 40 New Pence. If you don't remember Babar the Elephant, or are just not familiar with him, he is a typical animal given human characteristics for the sake of children's entertainment. A bit of a portly chap, he always likes to wear a green suit. Of course being portly, it wouldn't harm him to do some exercise. In this book Babar decides to become a sportsman (or was it a dream??), with some encouragement I might add from his cousin Arthur and his monkey friend Zephir. The book tells the story of Babar's pursuit as a Sportsman in the Grand Sports Contests for Fathers. Do you think he would have won the contest? Well it is a rather short - it is written for young children after all - so it won't take you long to find out. I really do like to pick up my books from childhood and have a quick flick through them before getting back to reality. This one brought back a few very dim and distant memories.
