Baby Bathtime is a lovely chunky board book that my little girl really enjoyed reading when she was young and now my little boy enjoys reading it and looking at the pictures. To be honest, the pictures are probably what attracts little babies to this book as they very bright and colourful and features lots of toys that they probably find in their bath.
The book is from DK books and as I've mentioned above its very chunky and although ours looks a bit beaten up at the edges the book is still in really good condition, all the pages still turn and look good. The book is obviously quite short, it only contains 7 big thick pages in it but its enough to keep a little one entertained for quite a long while. On the back of the book we are asked the question, "Where are all the bath toys hiding? Can you find them?
What I like about this book is that it also has flaps on each page that have a big tab on them which make it really easy for little fingers to pull open the page and discover what is behind the flap. The back of the book describes these as easy-grip flaps and I agree, my little boy finds it very easy to grab the tab and pull the flap over the reveal the bath toy behind the picture.
As an example to give you the gist of the book, on the left hand page we are asked, "Who is Mummy Duck looking for? and then on the front of the flap we see a really cute looking yellow rubber ducky and behind this flap we see that it's her three baby duckling that Mummy duck is looking for and the picture shows Mummy duck with her babies swimming behind her.
The book contains all the different bath toys that you probably have in your bath for your babies such as frogs, seashells and bath boats. I like the inclusion of all of these because it gets babies used to everyday things that you have in your own house and they start to learn their names and what they look like and eventually the words in the book too.
At the end of the book it says, "Let's name all the bath toys again," and there are pictures of all of them as well as text telling you what they are and my daughter had great fun pointing to the different animals as I called out their name and we're just doing this with my son now. In my experience small children love looking for things and then when they find them they love getting praise for finding them too so there's a number of different ways that this book can promote fun learning and also positive praise for small children.
The book costs £4.99, ISBN 978-1-40535-003-7 and in my opinion is a great first book for babies and small children.
