When my son was about 3 months old I decided that, although not old enough to hold and play with toys yet, I needed to give him some extra stimulation. When searching around online for ideas, I came across a selection of 'Baby's First' books and though that these were a lovely idea. Not only would it provide me with something to look at with him but it would also provide a great introduction to books and how they work. I ordered two, this Farm book and the Faces version too. I'm a great believer in incorporating books into the bedtime routine and the 'Baby's Very First Book : Farm' was one of several bought to share with 4 month old Freddy. Although it does have pages, this isn't exactly a traditional book being made of crinkly fabric rather than paper or card. The book itself is quite bulky and features high contrast black, white and red designs on each of the seven pages. The biggest attraction on the front of the book is a large circular, baby-safe mirror. Although the mirror does distort reflections slightly, it still shows baby's face very well. Anyone who read my earlier review on the Ladybird First Cot Book will already know that I'm a fan of 'black & white'/high contrast books for babies. The book I'm reviewing here is a similar format, but designed more like a 'proper' book, with pages to turn, rather than a concertina style to unfold and lay along the edge of a cot or pram. This book is from the 'Baby's Very First...' range. This review is for the 'Farm' edition, but there are others available such as 'Faces' & 'Pets'.
