Advantages: Lovely pictures and nice simple concept
Disadvantages: Pages are hard to turn
Is This My Nose? is a board book by Georgie Birkett. My daughter was given it for free as part of the Bookstart scheme at about a year of age, but now she is 15 months old she is showing a lot of interest in the illustrations.
The book is much larger than most of the other children's books in our ample collection. It is also quite hardy as it has survived a few falls and spills. The pages are glassy which means that they are easy to wipe clean when sticky fingers turn them.
My daughter really enjoys this book. She likes to look at all the pages in turn, as each one has a large picture of a child's face, which clearly appeals to her. Each page has a few words on it about finding different facial features. I usually sing the words to her as they have an element of rhythm to them. This book is perfect for my daughter's current stage in life as she is just starting to learn what a nose is, what eyes and ears are, etc. As each child points to each individual feature, a different animals helps him/her along on the same page.
This book is available on Amazon for around the £3 mark, however I would not recommend it for this price for one main reason-- the pages in the book are quite hard to turn for little fingers. This can be very frustrating for little one as its her favourite thing to do when I read to her. This is the main reason I am giving the book 3 stars, because although it is the right level for her and nicely eye-catching, it is simply too frustrating for her when she wants to sit and flip through the pages herself.
Summary: Great as a freebie but I wouldn't recommend buying it.
