Calm down Boris, is a children's book that was written by Sam Lloyd and was first published in the UK in 2006 by Templar publishing. This book won the Richard & Judy award for the best book for children in 2006.

I bought this book to read to my son in my local Tesco, it cost £5 but the price on the back of the book is £8.99, so was cheaper than the actual price. The first thing that attracted me to this book was the fact that it has a big orange monster on the front, the monsters mouth actually acts as a glove puppet and you have to put your hand into the puppet through the back of the book and as you are reading the book you then have to act out the part of the monster!!! The book is hard backed and measures about 24cm x 24cm, the pages are also made out of thick card so that they cannot be easily torn or chewed.

On the back of the book it reads 'Boris just wants to be loved, the thing is that he is too big and kissy and tickly, but sometimes being big and kissy and tickly is exactly what is needed!! It also advises you on the back that you have to stick your hand in the back of the book to move Boris' mouth, turn your hand to wiggle his jaw around and that you shouldn't forget to put on your best monster voice when reading the book!

The book starts off by saying that Boris is getting ready for the park, lets help him get ready by checking his fur for bugs and brushing his hair neat and tidy, so this then encourages your little one to check the hair and brush it down neatly. Then Boris says Thank you, which is when you should do the voice of Boris and he then gives big kisses, but the kisses are too tickly, it reads!!

The book then goes on to do something different each day with Boris, where the child must do something and it always ends up with Boris giving a big tickly kiss at the end!!

My son will sit for hours and let me read this book to him and he loves it when Boris kisses him with his tickly fur! I must say that he is a little too young yet to fully appreciate it as he cant really understand or manage to do the actions that the books asks of him. But my 2 year old god daughter loves it when I read this to her and she screeches with joy when Boris tried to kiss her and especially enjoys it when we put on the voice of the monster Boris!! I consider this to be a good addition to any child's library and is a very fun, action book!!

Summary: A must have for every child's book collection
