I have been learning Spanish for years and although my Spanish is now quite proficient it took me ages to get there. One of the most important tools in learning any language is a dictionary. The dictionary that I use is by Collins and is the easy learning Spanish dictionary.
This dictionary has proved invaluable to me over the years right from when I was first learning to today when I still consult it to find out what a specific word is.
The dictionary is quite heft at 672 pages and it fits in a lot of information into its pages.
It is laid out really easily to find what you are looking for with the front half of the book being the Spanish verbs and vocabulary and their English counterparts and the second half of the book being the English to Spanish translations. I think it is pretty good considering how many words there are in both languages there has only ever been a couple of times that I haven't been able to find the word or the verb that I am looking for.
The dictionary gives examples of how to use the words in context and as well as having some set exercises to help you get the hang of the language.
I would say this particular dictionary is aimed more at people who are starting out learning Spanish rather than advanced speakers but that's not to say that it isn't useful for anyone learning Spanish no matter their level. Some more complicated words may be missing but trust me if you could manage to memorise everything in this book then you wouldn't have a problem with finding a suitable alternative to use.
As with all language learning tools this is best used in conjunction with other study aides as although you can memorise words and verbs till the cows come home they are no good unless you also know how to structure a sentence and this won't teach you that though the exercises in the middle of the book do help you somewhat in that regard. There are verb tables telling you how to conjugate verbs both regular and irregular but you really need more practise in putting all the verbs and vocabulary together.
Reading the book is simple and the text is large enough that it is comfortable on the eyes instead of some other dictionaries where the text is so small that you can struggle to read the words. Also because everything is spaced well and the pages are large it makes looking up a word really easy and quick.
Overall I think this is a pretty good dictionary. There are others that are more extensive but this teaches all the words that you should need to know to have an in depth conversation. The large size does make it cumbersome but it also has the added benefit of the writing not being so small and easier to read. I paid £7.99 for the dictionary and it has served me well over the years so I think it is a really good price especially for the level of help it gives while trying to learn a new language.
