This is a beautifully illustrated and unusual book in terms of it's format.
~ The Author, Jane Simmons ~
Jane Simmons has written a huge number of books in the 'Daisy The Duck' series which are very popular amongst pre-school children. I have listed a few of them below:
Daisy and the moon
Shout, Daisy, Shout!
Come on, Daisy!
Daisy and the egg
Daisy's day out
~ The story ~
It's a very simple story, like most of the Daisy books.
It begins with Mummy telling Daisy it's home time. Daisy then sings "Mamma says it's home time!" to the frog, the mice and the butterflies.
Then Mummy calls out that it's suppertime and Daisy calls to the fish that it's suppertime.
When Daisy has had supper she calls to Grandpa "Daisy says it's story time!" Grandpa reads Daisy and Pip their favourite story.
When it's bedtime, Mummy says "Goodnight Daisy, Goodnight Pip"
~ Illustrations & Format ~
The story is extremely simple but what makes this book extra special are the fabulous illustrations and 3D carousel effect. The book actually opens out 360 degrees and can be tied with the attached ribbon so that it stands open and all of the pages can be seen at once.
The 3D / pop up effect is brilliant with different layers, e.g. Daisy and Pip above the water with the reeds, the frogs and the fish below all with different layers.
This is ideal for reading to small children on a one to one basis, not an ideal 'group' or 'class' book.
There is so much going on in the pictures that it will enchant and delight any pre-school child.
~ Price ~
My hardback ISBN: 1-84121-264-4 was £12.99
Amazon have the book for sale from £3.03 so still a lot cheaper even with P&P.
This book is definitely worth a trip to the library..........not an amazingly fantastic story but the illustrations and overall effect of the book is full of things to talk about and children can't help but be fascinated by all of the things to look at.
An exciting new arrival in the best-selling Daisy series. This time Jane Simmons' gentle artwork is brought to life in five 3D scenes. Young ones will enjoy spotting all the details in the several layers of each illustration. The carousel opens out into a full circle, packed with Daisy's adventures throughout the day. When it's time for Daisy and Pip to have their tea and a bedtime story, they are so busy having fun that Mamma Duck has difficulty getting them home. But by the time Daisy and Pip are snuggled under Mamma's wing they are so tired out after their long day that they don't even hear her say "goodnight".
