My daughter recieved this book as a Christmas gift from her nursery school teacher a few years ago. The teacher told Mackenna that she had picked this book out especially for her, which I thought was a lovely heartfelt gesture. We have loved this book ever since.
Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney is the delightful story of how Little Nutbrown Hare tries to convey to Big Nutbrown Hare just how much he loves him. On reading you will find out that it is not an easy task to measure how much you love someone.
What this book looks at is the basic question, how much do you love me? And in return how much do I love you? I don't think it is necessarily concerned with the competition that develops between Little Hare and Big Hare and who loves who the most, I feel that it is more in relation to how vast their love for one and other actually is.
If you stop to think about it, could you put it into adequate words, that describe how strong, deep and real your feeling of love is for your children? I struggle to find the words powerful enough to express the depth of love I have, so this book is ideal to help your child understand that although words sometimes fail, you love your child with all your heart.
The illustrations are lovely, and complement the story well, but do not take over the focus. I know my daughter enjoys the illustrations, but loves the actual story more.
We read this together most nights just before lights out, and we always end with our version of how much we love each other.
A great story for bedtimes, any times really, and I guarantee it will become a family favourite.
Summary: A lovely sweet bedtime story
