A wonderful birthday book by Dr Seuss

Please note that Dooyoo have given this product the wrong name, this is for the paperback book and this is what the picture shows.

Dr Seuss books have always been a favourite in my house so I was pleased when my little man got this one for his birthday. The book is called happy Birthday to You!

The cover of the book is bright blue and has a picture of a strange flying creature holding a birthday cake with 6 candles on it, this was appreciated by my little man as he was 6. The spine of the book is red and white striped. The back cover of the book is bright green and has a small paragraph about the story and about the style of the book. The version we have is the paperback one.

The story starts by telling us about how birthday's are celebrated in Katroo and how the birthday Honk-Honker climbs up Mt Zorn to blast the birthday horn. Honk-Honker is in charge of all the birthdays in Katroo and makes sure they are all special. We see just how a birthday is spent when the Honk-Honker is in charge and how special he makes you feel for the whole day. The story is very good and involves some very special and strange creatures. I loved how it has been made so it could be for anyone's birthday and not just the child in the story. There is a lot of fun to the story and it really is a joy to read. The writing style is good and very easy to follow. There are a few tricky words which new and beginner readers may struggle with but with a bit of help they will soon be able to get the hang of them.

The book is full of bright and interesting illustrations. They are all very detailed and always have a lot gong on in them. They make the story telling a lot easier as we get to see what these creatures being talked about actually look like. There are some very weird and strange places visited in the story but the pictures make them all look so fun. With the pictures being so detailed it also gives you a lot to talk about as you can ask questions about what the child can see in the picture and this does make the sharing time a lot longer.

The print is a good size and is very easy to see. It is all in black text and on plain sections of the pages. I have found that my eight year old can read this book with ease as the print is easy to read and he does enjoy being the big brother ad reading this to his 2 younger brothers. With some of the books I have found the print is hard to read for myself as is on a dark coloured page but this is not the case with this book.

The book is part of the green back collection which s aimed at children just beginning to read on their own. I would say that children between the ages of 4-6 will love having this book read to them and slightly older children will love the fact they can read this by themselves so it does appeal to a wide audience. The retail price for the paperback edition of the book is £4.99 but this can be bought for slightly less on Amazon. I think this is a reasonable price as the book brings so much enjoyment. It has been published by Harper Collins and written by Dr Seuss.

I am more than happy to give this book the full 5 stars as it has a very enjoyable story which has some very fun and strange creatures and characters. The text is a good and clear size and it encourages independent reading but does also make for a good fun time when sharing with your child. This really is a lovely little gift for a child's birthday.
