      A great book to share with your children.

      'If I was Boss' is a Red Fox Book that was published specially for World Book Day 2004.

      The Book
      ------------
      The story is written by Kes Gray. It is 15pages long and it is written in english, in a large font suitable for young readers. The RRP is £1 as it's a World Book Day book or you could exchange it for free with a world book token (they give these out at schools).

      The Story
      -------------
      The story is about a little girl called Daisy ( there are many Red Fox books that follow the adventures of Daisy, including 'Eat your Peas', 'Yuk!', 'Really Really' and 'You Do!'). The plot revolves around what Daisy would do if she was boss, and is a lovely silly story to read with your children.

      Illustations
      --------------
      The book is illustrated by the very talented Nick Sharatt, who has illustrated more than 40 books for children including 'A Cheese and Tomato Spider' and 'Ketchup on your cornflakes.' The illustrations are fun, and barmy. Which includes Daisy dancing with a monkey and having a mud bath with an elephant.

      To sum it up, this is a fun book to liven up your cheeky monkeys bed time, and you could use it to introduce discussion on what you and your child would do if you were 'boss'.

      Another book in this popular series.

      This book is one of a series of books all about Daisy, written by Kes Gray and illustrated by Nick Sherratt.

      **************
      Daisy Books
      *************
      This series of books is very popular amongst the 4 - 5 year olds I teach. Daisy is a little girl with a 'frighteningly' straight bobbed hairstyle and her adventures are really popular with most little girls as they can relate to her mischievious humour and 'goings on'!

      Daisy doesn't 'do' dresses, e.g in the book entitled YUK! she wants to wear a baseball outfit or a leopard skin suit rather than a bridesmaid dress!

      Some other books in the series are:
      * Yuk!
      * You Do!
      * Eat Your Peas
      * Really, Really
      * A Bunch of Daisies

      ****************
      If I Was BOSS
      ****************
      In this book, Daisy talks about all of the things most young children would love to do in the house if they were the boss.

      Daisy tells her Mum that if she was Boss, things would be different, she'd have:
      * sweets for breakfast
      * a pet monkey
      * oodles of lemonade
      * mud baths
      * always be untidy and never have to tidy away.

      When her Mum says that the house would be a total mess with sweet wrappers, muddy towels and toys / games etc all over the place, Daisy replies:
      "Not if I was Boss, I'd make you do it!"

      *************
      Illustrations
      *************
      The vibrant colours in this book are very appealing as well as the humourous element in the drawings, e.g. when an elephant is pouring mud all over Daisy in her mud bath with it's trunk.

      Style and Format
      *******************
      This is a very simple text and quite a short story.............I wish it was longer with more things that Daisy could do if she were Boss.

      The book is predominantly, alternate pages of text and illustrations, although the pages of text have a border of something relevant to it, e.g. "I'd have a real pet monkey to play with." is surrounded by drawings of bananas.

      My Verdict
      ***********
      This is a very popular series of books amongst the girls I teach but the boys aren't overly keen although they do like the idea of the mischief of having a monkey as a pet and a mud bath instead of a normal bath.

      Children love to come up with their own suggestions of what they would do if they were the Boss and the pros and cons of their choices can be discussed.

      This book is a little too short for my liking, I think a lot more mischievious and humorous ideas could have been introduced, nonetheless, the content is humorous to children.

      Amazon are selling used and new copies of this paperback book from 1p which is a great bargain even with P&P.
