Advantages: Great fun, especially with the mirror ending
Disadvantages: None
My son has always been a fan of the in the night garden children's television programme and loves watching it on the television. When I spotted this book, Hide and peek, a peep through mirror book by In the night garden I decided I would get it for him. I bought it in my local Tesco and it cost £5, which was reduced from the £6.99 price on the back of the book.
The book is made from extremely hard cardboard and measures about 21cm x 21cm. On the front it has a picture of Makka Pakka and Iggle Piggle and the Tombliboos. The page is shaped and has the top right hand corner cut out so that the pages can be turned over easily; this also reveals a picture of the Pinky Ponk on the next page.
On the second page it says 'Shall we go by Ninky Nonk or Pinky Ponk? Let's go into the garden, who is that dancing'? There is then a small hole cut out of the second page that shows part of the next character that is dancing, you then turn the page to reveal who the character is.
The book then continues in this way giving clues to which character will be next, you then turn the page to reveal the answer. On the second to last page it asks 'can you see another friend in the garden'? And there is a hole cut out to see who this could be and then when you turn the page it reveals a big, round mirror and says 'Its you!'
Im not sure about your child but my son is absolutely crazy about mirrors and could sit for hours looking at himself!! (I am praying that he won't always be this way and end up very vain!!) So when we get to the end of the book he always knows what is coming and gets very excited!!
The book only has five pages in total so is not very long and doesn't have lots of writing on each page, which is ideal for babies that don't want to sit for a long time and be read to. My son does enjoy this book and gets excited when he see's the different characters, his favourite is Makka Pakka!!
Summary: Isn't that a Pip!!
