~*~ Lalaloopsy Meet The Lalaloopsy Girls Book ~*~
You may be aware by now of our love for all things Lalaloopsy and that doesn't mean just the toys . When my daughter was first taken oven by Lalaloopsy mania she was only 3 years old and because it was first released in America there wasn't the huge range over here that you can buy now.
So as soon as this book popped up on Amazon.co.uk I pre-ordered ready for release. According to my Amazon account I ordered this in May 2011 and it was delivered in Sept 2011 , I paid £1.82 at the time and it is now available for £2.62 new from Amazon with free delivery.
~*~ The Book ~*~
The book is a paperback and measures 20.5 cm square. Aside from the cover there are 24 pages .
The Story starts on pages 4 and 5 , with a Lalaloopsy Land map covering both pages. This shows pictures of the first 8 Lalaloopsy girl's houses . The houses are realistic to the houses that come with the mini figure dolls . Each house is decorated to match the doll's personality , and even the pathways to the houses are themed with the doll , for example Jewel Sparkles house has a path made of jewels, while Bea Spells-A-Lot's path is made of chalkboards with numbers on .
Pages 6 and 7 introduce the girls . The text reads , the Lalaloopsy dolls were once rag dolls that magically came to life when their last stitch was sewn. Each doll has a special personality that comes from the fabrics that were used to make her . The illustration shows all 8 dolls with their pets and has their shortened name underneath them .
Pages 8-9 are dedicated to Crumbs Sugar Cookie
Pages 10-11 are for Jewel Sparkles
Pages 12-13 for Dot Starlight
Pages 14-15 are all about Peanut Big Top
Pages 16-17 are about Bea Spells-A-Lot
Pages 18-19 are for Mittens Fluff 'N' Stuff
Pages 20-21 are for Pillow Featherbed
Pages 22-23 are for Spot Splatter Splash
On each of the double pages dedicated to the individual dolls it tells you all about them, what they are made from, how their personality came about , their likes , dislikes , birthdate and about their pets .
The last page shows all 8 girls together holding hands and reads , each Lalaloopsy girl is special , just like you ! And with your love and a bit of imagination, the Lalaloopsy magic can go for ever.
The pictures in the book are lovely , very bright and colourful and stay true to the dolls . The detail on each page is perfect , everything co-ordinates to each doll and her pet.
~*~ For Readers ~*~
My daughter had only just stared school when she received this book and as a July baby had not long turned 4 so couldn't read it herself, to begin with I read to her with her 'reading' the dolls name as she could tell who it was by the picture. Very quickly she learn to read the text , the combination of knowing who the dolls were and their personalities made it easy for her to read the harder words that don't phonically sound out .
This was a great help to my daughter who wasn't particularly interested in reading at the start , it gave her confidence in her reading ability and made her keen to read more .
To compare to the Oxford Reading stages that most primary schools use I would say that by the time my daughter was stage 5 Green she was reading this and other Lalaloopsy books independently .
~*~ Extras ~*~
A strange extra but one I will tell you about anyway. There were no colouring books or activity books available when we bought this book [ there are now] because the pictures are nice and bright you can use normal white paper and trace them . From this I have made colouring pages and dot to dots for my daughter , and just lately I have been using the pictures to make birthday decorations for her up and coming Lalaloopsy birthday party.
~*~ Thoughts ~*~
A super book to introduce the Lalaloopsy dolls , Nice text, lovely pictures and it has helped my daughter become much more interested in reading which can only be a good thing.
We have since bought all the Lalaloopsy books that are available , she reads and re-reads them all the time and they still hold her attention which is more than Biff and Chip have ever done !
Due to the book being American there is some spelling differences. Color being one of them , this did not bother us at all , and opened up a whole conversation on what else the Americans spell differently and what names they use for things that we don't .
