This book tells the story of seven American teenagers who are bound together by an accident that happened a year ago. Very interestingly written but if youve seen the movie I Know What You Did Last Summer you will find the plot very similar, coming back from a concert one night the group were in the car when they struck a man and killed him, keeping the secret amongst themselves they go on with their lives until they recieve a letter. The person who sent the letter knows what they did last summer (if youll pardon the pun) and demands tasks from each of them, they comply until he tells one of them to streak naked in school and she doesnt, this is where the book really ... Most people think that books cannot be in any way "scary", and so did I, until I read this book. ***The story*** (I'll try not to spoil it!) The plot of this book is quite closely related to "I know what you did last Summer" and very scary. A group of teenagers drive through a remote road and run over a man, killing him, they dump the body and all is fine. Then the letters start arriving forcing each member of the group in turn to perform a task a sick or often huumiliating task or "pay the consequences". The story does finally draw to a conclusion leaving you wondering how the writer could fit in a sequel, ... Read the complete review

As with all of Christopher pike novels I have read this many times. The plot is gripping with many twists and turns. As the book is relatively short (only around 200 pages depending on issue ) I read it in a day. It is almost imposable to put down and you will find yourself burning the midnight oil to see what happens next. Based around a group of friends in an American high school, they receive a chain letter stating that someone, The Caretaker, knew what they did "that awful night" and they must pay for the terrible crime they committed. The first half of the book is based around them trying to find out who could have seen them. ... Read the complete review

I bought this book on impulse years ago. I have been involved in chain letters before but none as traumatising as this one. For this was one which would bring severe bad luck to those who did not continue the chain. And continuing the chain was not just a simple matter of copying it out six times and sending to six friends. This demanded that the teenagers involved perform certain tasks. These started off as things like slagging off the teachers to their faces but later progressed (in the sequel)to things like burning their sister's entire arm. Failure to perform these tasks led to little accidents and, in some cases, death. A good read (if a teenage one) but not ... Read the complete review

I personaly love this book and have read it several times. It has some similar traits to "i know what you did last summer" but you must remember that this book came first and there for was well before its time. christopher pike brings each character to life in this book. it's a wonderful book in whitch you can't help but love the villan. It made me laugh, cry, and jump out of my skin when someone knocked on my door. In my oppinion well worth a ... Read the complete review
