Little Miss Late is number 15 in the Little Miss collection. Roger Hargreaves wrote this collection of 33 fantastic stories and each one tells the story of a different character.
Little Miss Late is olive green in colour and round in shape. She has a bright yellow nose and freckles as well as shockingly orange hair. This picture of her is found on the front of the book along with her name but can also be found in a much smaller version on the reverse of the book along with miniature pictures of all the other characters in the series. This makes it easy to keep track of which stories you have read and which you have yet to do so.
Little Miss Late's story begins by telling us that Little Miss Late was late for everything. For example she spent last Christmas at home but she celebrated Christmas on January 25th! One month late! Better still she went on her summer holiday in winter. Now one day whilst Little Miss Late was out in her garden Little Miss Neat called out to her and after a brief discussion the pair decided to meet the next day at two o'clock in the town to go shopping.
As you can imagine Little Miss Late was late and this is what happened all the time. The first time she decided to get a job she was so late that the bank where she was working had shut by the time she had arrived. This was the case at numerous other jobs but would she ever find herself a job where it didn't matter if she was late? Or would Little Miss Late have to somehow make herself be on time?
Each book in the Little Miss collection is printed in the same format and Little Miss Late is no exception. The book contains writing on the left-hand side of the book and cheery and colourful pictures on the right-hand side that engage the attention of younger children. The writing itself is easy to read you not over simplistic as to bore more confident readers. The story is however relatively short in length and so is not only perfect for reading at bedtime but also the right length to stop a child's mind wandering.
This book retails for between £1.99 and £2.50 and along with all the others in the Little Miss series can be easily purchased from all good book shops as well as a large selection of supermarkets and online retailers. If you shop around you will find that you can often purchase the books for a cheaper price or on offer making them even better value for money.
