When I was younger I used to be Mary-Kate and Ashley mad! I had their videos, books, music...you name it I had it. For those of you who don't know, Mary-Kate and Ashley are American twin sisters. They were born in 1986 (and are 25 years old now). They have been 'in the public eye' since they were 9 months (yes months, not years!). They started out as actresses, however as they have got older they have turned their hands to fashion and beauty. One of the television shows Mary-Kate and Ashley starred in was a teenage show called 'So Little Time' and they were the main characters. As well as being a television show, there is also a huge collection of books based on the show. Today, I will be reviewing one of the books.
So Little Time: Love Is In The Air is the 13th book in the 'So Little Time' collection. It was released in the United Kingdom in 2005 (however, it was released around 2-3 years earlier in the United States. Amazon are currently selling this book from as little as £0.01 which I think is excellent value for money.
~ * The Plot * ~
Chloe and Riley Carlson are fourteen year old twin sisters. They live by the beach in Malibu with their mother who is a designer, and their father who lives in a trailer on the beach (he is trying to find himself), so they household is quite a funny one.
In this book, Valentine's day is coming up and it will be Chloe's first Valentine's day with her boyfriend Lennon. She has planned the evening well in advance and it is going to be perfect. Chloe tells her boyfriend that she loves him, however what will happen when he doesn't say it back?
On the other hand, Chloe's twin Riley has had so many bad dates recently that she decide she is going to go on strike and give up boys for Valentine's day. Although what will she do when she bumps into someone she really likes? Read this book to find out.
~ * What Did I Think? * ~
Well, first of all as you can see from the plot, the book is very busy as there are lots of things going on as there are two storylines. I wouldn't say that the storyline is a strong one; yes there are lots of things happening, but it is mainly like 'a day in the life of...' rather than a big dramatic plot.
Despite the fact that the storyline is quite simple, to teenagers things like these are major events and so one thing which I like about the book is how easy to relate to the events in the story are; all teenage girls will be able to relate to the plots; especially the ones about guys.
Even though the book doesn't go into too much depth, it still makes an interesting and enjoyable read. It is the kind of book which once you have read the first sentence, you just have to keep on reading until you've reached the end as you will not want to put the book down. It's very addictive.
The main characters in the book; Chloe and Riley are really likeable. They come across as being fun and friendly. They make you feel as though you are the 'third triplet', rather than a friend of the twins. They are so easy to relate to as well which is good and so I think that this is one of the main reasons why I enjoyed the book.
I would say that the book is aimed at girls between the ages of around 11 and 15. The text is quite simple and mainly consists of short, simple sentences. The text just flows which means that the book is easy-reading.
I like the fact the book moves very quickly. It's all very 'they did this and then they did that' and it doesn't hang around which is good as it means that it keeps the readers interested.
I would definitely recommend this book. It would make a perfect stocking filler for teenage girls this Christmas. Also, at 1p each per book you can afford to buy the whole collection.
Thanks for reading!
