In 1971, Roger Hargreaves created the Mr Men, publishing them first of all in magazines and cartoon strips as well as the now famous books. There were over 40 in the original series, including some that his son, Adam, created after Roger's death in 1988. These all came out after the year 2000, and Mr Christmas is a special edition book.
This book, entitled Mr Christmas' Sound Book, is a little bit different to the others, in that it has a button in the bottom right hand corner. The button plays Jingle Bells! The story is magical, and festive, as you would imagine. Mr Christmas is asked by Father Christmas to help him with the Christmas presents. Mr Christmas then chooses and gets presents for all the Mr Men, who then receive them all with glee and open them straight away (well, nearly straight away!)
Mr Christmas is a triangular, dark green, reminiscent of a Christmas Tree, with red gloves and boots. The story is a lovely one, capturing the magic of Christmas very well, and involving lots of the Mr Men, which is nice. The book is in a board book format, with every page a hard one, which does bump the price up from the normal £2.50 up to a retail price of £4.99, although closer to Christmas this is likely to be on offer. I recommend this Mr Men book as well as all of the others and the Little Miss books as well.
Mr Christmas sound book is a new addition to the ever popular Mr Men book series. We bought this copy for our boys as a stocking filler for Christmas.
The story begins with us finding out where Mr Christmas lives, which is in the South Pole. He receives a knock on door from the postman who delivers him a letter from Father Christmas.
Father Christmas asks Mr Christmas for help to deliver all the presents to the Mr Men. Mr Christmas agreed to help him but thought that it was not going to be an easy job as there are a lot of Mr men.
He makes himself a list of all the Mr Men and the presents he was going to give to them.
The story goes on to tell of how long it takes him to find all of the presents and to wrap them. When Christmas eve arrives Mr Christmas has a very long and busy night.
We see the Mr Men opening their presents and being very pleased. The story ends with Mr Slow finally opening his present on New Years Eve!
This book is made from very thick and strong cardboard, the book measures 21.5cm by 21 cm by 1.5 cm. Each page is a thick 2 mm which helps small hands to turn them.
There are 10 story pages and each are decorated with a wonderful picture and lovely bright colours.
There is a sound button in the bottom right corner which when pressed plays the tune to Jingle Bells.
The book was produced in 2007 under licence from Price Stern Sloan Limited.
The recommended retail price for this is £4.99 but we did only pay £2.99 in the sales which is a great price for such a lovely book.
My boys absolutely loved this book. They enjoyed the very pleasant story and the wonderful bright coloured pages kept them involved.
They had great fun constantly pressing the sound button, now it is January though the tune is getting a bit annoying but they still love it.
This book has been dropped and trodden on and is still in a perfect condition. The thickness makes it impossible to bend which is a bonus in my house!

I also have this review posted on Ciao! under the same name.
In the run up to Christmas I was singing lots of festive songs to my son to get him ready (he's nearly two so was more able to appreciate it this year). Very quickly he latched on to 'Jingle Bells' and started singing it over and over again. He even learnt how to play the first 6 notes on the keyboard!
Anyway, unsuprisingly he received lots of jingle bell themed presents and cards and his favourite of all of these was the Mr. Christmas sound book.
First things first (and what he discovered first), at the bottom right corner of the book is a button which when pressed plays jingle bells (very loudly). The tune goes on for quite a while as it starts from 'dashing through the snow...' and continues to the end of the chorus. As an aside you end up having to raise your voice when reading the book to be heard over this!
The story is simple and charming - Father Christmas needs help and asks Mr. Christmas to deliver the Christmas presents to the Mr Men. He is happy to help and the story follows him writing a list, wrapping and then some of the Mr. Men opening their presents.
The story is more simplified than the typical Mr. Men books and the pictures are bigger and bolder so this would appeal to even the youngest of babies. My son loves pointing out the shapes of the Mr. Men and the colour of their hats so there is also potential to use this as an educational tool.
The book itself is a board book and looks fairly robust with pages thick enough for young children to turn.
Remember this book for next Christmas - you could even start practising singing jingle bells now ready. I have a funny feeling I'll be singing along with my son well into the year (what have I started?!)
RRP is £4.99, I've also had a look around and the book is available for between £3.99 (Amazon) and £4.49.
It's Christmas time and Father Christmas needs help with the presents! He asks Mr Christmas to deliver them to the Mr Men. But can he deliver them all in time?
