Mr. Men Library: Mr. Messy - Roger Hargreaves
Advantages: Great fun reading
Disadvantages: Small writing
Mr Messy is number 8 in the Mr Men collection. He is made up from messy scribbled lines which are pink in colour.
The book has a white cover which has a picture of Mr Messy and the title above this in black letters. The back of the book has smaller pictures showing the other characters available in the collection.
The book starts by giving us some details about Mr Messy and telling us that he is the messiest person you will ever meet and that you can always see where he has been as he leaves a trail of messy fingerprints. We are also shown a picture of his house which has paint peeling off, roof tiles missing and a very overgrown messy garden.
The story starts by Mr Messy getting out of bed and having a wash and brushing his teeth. He then goes on to have his breakfast where he makes a mess.
After his breakfast he goes for a walk, he trips over a brush which he has left in the garden but carries on with his walk through the woods behind his house. When he comes out the other side of the woods he finds the neatest tidiest house he has ever seen.
Outside the house he meets Mr Neat and Mr Tidy. They say that they are in business together doing up peoples houses making them very tidy and neat. They offer to go and work on Mr Messy's house but he says he likes it being messy. They say this is nonsense and they take him in their van to his house.
Will they make Mr Messy tidy or will he still be messy?
This is a very fun book. The story is quite funny and the boys love hearing about all the funny messy things he does.
The story is accompanied by very nice bright illustrations which help to keep the boys involved in the book and to stop them wondering off.
The book is laid out in the same way as all the other Mr Men books with the text on the left hand pages and the illustrations on the right hand side. The only downside to this and the other books in the collection is that the text is quite small so it doesn't encourage my eldest to try to help me read the words.
The book can be read in about 5 minutes which makes it ideal for a bedtime story or a short read if you haven't got much time.
The book was written by Roger Hargreaves and published by Egmont Limited.
The retail price for this is £1.99 but they can be found cheaper in smaller book shop and Wilkinson's do sell them for £1.49.
There are 46 Mr Men characters in this collection each having their own story book.
