“ Genre: Junior Books / Hardcover / Publication Date: 2007 / Publisher: Hinkler Books „
Recently the school I work in held its annual summer fair and my first port of call was to visit the toy and book stall to see if there was anything for my daughter. I was pretty lucky that evening, including picking up this little book called 'My First 1 2 3 Glitter Book' which is part of a series of 'My First....' books published by Hinkler Books. I picked mine up used for 30p (!) however you can still pick up this book Amazon marketplace or ebay but for slightly more!
This is called a Glitter book because on each number page, all of the items shown have parts made from glittery material, so that they shimmer as you move the book, with the aim of catching the attention of baby. The added glitter makes this first number book that little bit different than other books.
Each page of the book is devoted to a number from 1 to 10, which a photographed picture of a specific number of items. These start with 1 xylphone, 2 fish, 3 sailing ships, 4 frogs, 5 pencils, 6 flowers, 7 pieces of fruit, 8 clothes pegs, 9 balls and 10 lollipops. There is also a touchy feely element to this boo, as with each glittery part of the picture, baby can reach out and feel the shimmery material.
When I first brought this out for my daughter to look at, she seemed very taken with the glittery shimmer that was obvious on each page. She also loves the bright, colourful photographs particuarly of things that she is somewhat familiar with. My daughter is also at an age now where she likes to reach out and touch the pictures in the book, so the fact that there is the touchy feeling element to this book, is an added bonus. THis book seems to hold her attention from start to finish and is especially useful at some meal times is she is in a cranky mood or teething and not really wanting to sit and eat.
All in all, this is a great book and to get it for 30p is even better, however, I would happily have paid more given how much it keeps the attention of my 10 month old daughter and how bright and eye catching the colour photographs are. SHe is a little young to understand the numerical aspect, but this has the advantage therefore that this is a book that will grow with her, so when she reaches the stage of being able to understand early numbers this should still be a good book to rely on. I like the addition of the glitter as it certainly makes it more exciting for baby.
