      A lovely book

I bought this book for my youngest daughter recently in our local Asda store, the books are currently seeling for £3.50 each although the RRP is £5.99. There are four books within this series,

      Opposites,
      Numbers,
      Colours,
      Animal Actions

The front cover of the book has a bright green background, each of the books has a different bright and bold background. These books are by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler and use the characters from the famous Gruffalo book. The front cover shows the Gruffalo standing next the tiny little mouse from the story, the characters stand out well against the bright background and in the top corner there is a circle badge style picture with the Gruffalo in and stating "My First Gruffalo" I don't know how attractive the book is to little ones but I showed my daughter three out of the four books and she picked this one.

Inside the book you have six double pages each one showing a different opposite, there is big vs small, slow vs fast, happy vs sad, long vs short, high vs low and day vs night. The characters used are all from the Gruffalo story although my youngest has never really paid attention to the story so she wouldn't recognise the characters.

The drawings are all great, the background for the pages are in white and the characters stand out against the background well. The pictures are drawn in such a way that they are not just objects on a page but they go nicely together like the big Gruffalo looking down to the small mouse, the long snake is slithering alongside the short centitpede and the low down snake is positioned under the high tree.

I think this book is great, very simply it teaches young children about opposites using some lovely characters, my daughter will quite happily sit through the book and doersn't get bored which is probably since the book is so short. I think if Asda still have therse books next week when we go in I will be buying her another one.
