My daughter received a couple of new books for her first birthday but her favourite by far was this very girly book 'My Pretty Pink Counting Bag' which as can be seen from the picture above comes in the shape of a handbag.
Now, I'm not sure where this book was actually purchased at, but I have seen it since on amazon for £6, which I think is a little over the top for a young child's book, despite my daughter liking it, but it is maybe a book that can be sourced a lot cheaper on the likes of ebay. This is a hardback book which does help a lot when it is in the hands of a child, especially my daughter who has already managed to stain it with food and chewed on the handle!
On the back of the book, it actually states that this is suitable for children 3+ but in my opinion, that is far too old an age recommendation. My daughter is almost 14 months and loves it and it certainly isn't beyond her.
This book focuses on the numbers 1 to 10 but in a very colourful and photographic way. Each page or set of pages is dedicated to a number. Bright colourful photographic pictures are used rather than illustrations making it much more lifelike. There is a simple storyline through the book that has rhythm and rhyme to it, which my daughter seems to enjoy.
The story commences with the owner of the bag having 1 pink fairy with pink fairy wings in her bag, followed by 2 pink tiaras, three pretty bracelets, four rings, five party dresses, six teddy bears, seven flowers with bees buzzing around, eight cupcakes, nine socks but none of them pairs and ten hair clips. Even as I am writing I hear the storyline in my head, as I have read it soooo many times to my little girl.
She has her favourite pages which she always flicks to, including the party dresses where she likes to point to the dress she likes best, and the page with the six teddy bears, where each have been given names and again she always points to the same teddy which she likes.
This is a perfect book for a little girl. It is a fun counting book that can be used with young children to softly introduce numbers in a colourful and bright way with pictures that resonate with little girls such as hair clips and teddies! I think that is why my daughter loves it, as she loves so many of the girly things it shows. Why it has been suggested for a 3+ age range I'm not sure, but this is a great book for little girls a lot younger than that!
