Advantages: Amazing illustrations/thoughtful and encouraging book
Disadvantages: Bought new; very expensive
I bought part of this set of books for my daughter when she was aged about 5 years old, many moons ago; she is now 15! Apart from this one I bought her 'Bright Star Night'. Other books in the series are 'All Year Long' and 'Sad News Glad News'. I actually used to belong to a children's book club then from which I got many wonderful books for my daughter. This and Bright Star Night are 2 of the books that she decided to hold on to. This one in particular is her all time favourite from when she was little and we called it her 'special book' The book is to 'help children say goodbye to the day that has gone, to sleep in peace, and to look forward to the next day'.
There are short prayers in the book with responses. It tells about thinking about how wonderful the earth is and the world; it tries to instil in the child good thoughts, thinking about how kind people may have been that day and how you are loved. It helps a child to feel positive about themselves and about how special they are. If things didn't go well in a day for a child, for example if you were angry or upset or argued that day it tries to help you to think about making things right and put any bad thought away from your mind before you go to bed that night..
One part of the book that I thought was very special is a page where it tries to encourage the child to let go of 'any sad thoughts', 'any angry thoughts' and 'any nasty plans'. Sometimes if my daughter was upset we would focus on certain parts the book to try to make her feel better. It has prayers for the end of the night for the child about how God is close and how to pray to him to look after you. Also praying for others to be looked after, not just yourself and how to pray for tomorrow to be a good day full of love, joy and light.
For some reason I have seen that this book bought new costs around £32.00 from Amazon; there are used ones for about £3.00. I think that this must be a very collectable book! Its strange because in contrast you can buy Bright Star Night for about £3.00 new plus postage. When I bought this book it was £5.99 new. Apart from a sentimental point of view Perhaps from a financial one, my daughter has something worth holding on to ! I have to say that £32.00 is a ridiculously high price.
This is a treasure of a book and the illustrations are fantastic. I am sure that all little children would simply love this book, just as my daughter did all those years ago. Its 5 well deserved stars from me.
