My daughter loves Peppa Pig, books and being noisy - this book is the perfect combination of all three and so we bought it for her 3rd birthday.
---About Peppa Pig
Peppa Pig is a character from the TV shows of the same name. The show follows her life with her little brother George, her Mummy and Daddy, and all of her friends. The character is suitable for young children up to age 5-6 years and my daughter who is 3 loves it. Peppa gets up to all kinds of mischief like my daughter, but she generally learns something by the end of the episode.
---About the book:
The Super Noisy Book is a hardback book with a plastic section on the right of the book which houses 18 buttons which play sound effects and a small speaker at the bottom. On the back of this plastic section there is a cover for the battery compartment. The front cover has the Peppa Pig logo on it and the name of the book written in colourful writing with a picture of Peppa and George playing musical instruments. It also tells you that it has 18 sounds...
The book follows the format of on each page there is a picture which covers much of the page and then there are a few lines of text on a white background surrounded by a coloured dotted line. At the bottom of each section of writing there are some squares with a picture in them which correspond to the buttons on the right of the book. The idea being that when you reach points in the story you can press the appropriate button to hear a sound effect which should enhance the story. Some of the sound effects included in this book are Peppa laughing, George crying, Suzy Sheep baaing, a duck quacking, brushing teeth, telephone ringing, a muddy puddle squelching and Peppa snoring.
The story is about a rainy day in the Pig household so they try to find things to do. They end up doing several things throughout the day like playing with toys, playing with friends, having lunch, feeding the ducks, jumping in muddy puddles and finally going to sleep at the end of the day. The picture on the front of the book comes from one of the pages but doesn't really bear any relevance to the rest of the book as they do not play their instruments throughout it.
My daughter really enjoyed this book and understands the concept of it easily. As I read the book she listens for the words and looks at the pictures to see which buttons to press and at which point. The buttons can be pressed easily and the sounds are loud enough to be heard easily but not too loud as to be overpowering. It is supposed to be suitable only for over 3s but I honestly think it would be suitable for younger children especially if supervised.
The story is slightly bizarre and jumps around a lot to fit in all the different sound effects. It does get a bit confusing as there are 4 different large pictures of Peppa where the buttons all make different sounds, and I get them mixed up a lot as well as my daughter! It is a shame that the pictures are not shown in the correct places in the text as it would help when she starts to read as she would know when to press the buttons. Having them all at the bottom of the text means she doesn't always know when to press them. I think you could easily have missed out some of the buttons as they are not really used much in the book (like the salad and tooth-brushing) and they could definitely get rid of the burping as I hate it when she does that in the programme. I ususally miss this sound out! My daughter can obviously play with this on her own as well as with me and she does enjoy making lots of noises with this book.
With a price tag of £12.99 this is not a cheap book. Books are generally more expensive nowadays but I still feel this is too much for the book. I got it on offer at £5 which I was happy to pay and for the enjoyment it has brought my daughter, it was well worth the cost. I think the story is very contrived to match the sounds and I feel it would have been better with less sounds or different sounds. It is good for my daughter as she recognises all the characters from the programme and the sounds are the same as on that, but I would only buy it again if I got it at the same price.
When I first saw Peppa Pig on TV I was not a big fan, My Husband commented that in every episode Daddy Pig plays the part of a comidy idiot and I thought the characters were to be honest a bit on the ugly side.
However our daughter LOVES all things Peppa Pig and as a result she is growing on me too. Theres little point in fighting it and the house is starting to collect Peppa merchandise with every passing week.
One of first things she had was this Peppa's Super Noisy Sound Book and so far we have been very impressed.
We have tried a few of these 'sound' books and they vary a lot in terms of quality. This one is quite large and well made. The sounds are also impressivly realistic and include everything from the sound of splashing in a muddy puddle and the sound of falling rain to George crying and Peppa laughing and everything inbetween.
Our daughter is 18 months and at the moment is limited to pressing the buttons at random to hear the sounds and going through page by page asking us 'whats that?' to which we answer 'thats Peppa... thats a car' etc etc. However for older children the story inside has little symbols of which button to press at appropriate points in the story and makes the reading experience nice and interactive and lets them play a part before they are able to actually read for themself.
The only critisism I have is that some of the pictures and button of Peppa look very simmilar and so if you are trying to follow the story it can be a bit confusing knowing which button to press when.
But overall we think its a lovely book, our daughter loves it as it is well illustrated so a nice little gift for a little Peppa fan.
I bought this book for my daughter as a last minute present for Christmas from Marks & Spencer when they had 50% off their books and toys before Christmas. I paid £6 for it, it would have been £12 full price.
It is a large hardback book with a glossy cover featuring Peppa Pig playing a trumpet and George Pig playing a drum. The sticker on the front says 3+. Along the bottom of the cover is says 'With 18 Fantastic Sounds'. Down the right hand side of the book, it has a plastic keypad featuring the sound buttons with colourful pictures on them.
Inside the front cover it says 'I'm Peppa Pig and this is my super noisy sound book! Press the buttons as you read the story'. It is a simple story about Rebecca and Richard Rabbits going to George and Peppa's house to play on a rainy day. When the rain stops they all go to feed the ducks and jump in muddy puddles and play hide and seek. The book finishes by Peppa and George going through their bedtime routine of cleaning their teeth and going to bed after Daddy Pig reading them a story.
Throughout the story there is the usual illustrations and words but also the picture buttons to match the keypad buttons on the side of the book. This makes the story more interesting. My daughter loves this book, we have read it together quite a few times already! She also likes pressing the same button over and over again, which can be quite annoying.
Full price I think this book is expensive at £12, although I would pay it. However at £6 I got a bargain, well worth it. I think this book would be great for any Peppa Pig fan.
In our household we have a big Peppa Pig fan, he has loved the programme since he was one and still loves it now at three years old. Last year I hunted for a Peppa book with sound, not the ones with just one sound button I wanted one with lots! I found one but it was no longer published and I couldn't find a second hand one anywhere. But a bit of luck struck when they released one in October last year just in time for Christmas. I knew it would be a hit and I was right, it was.
The book is called Peppa's Super Noisy Sound book and has 18 fantastic sounds. I was amazed by the number of sounds the book has as a lot of sound books usually only have a small amount. The book is on the large side measuring about 30cms by 31cms. My youngest son who is 20 months struggles with it on his knee and prefers to have it flat on the floor. My eldest holds in on his knee no problems and loves the independence.
The keypad runs the length of the right hand side of the book. Each button is a nice size and has a nice simple colourful picture on it which corresponds to the same picture in the book. All the pictures are ones you little one will recognise if they are a Peppa Pig fan. We have several of Peppa Pig herself, dinosaur, Several of George, Danny Dog, Susie Sheep, duck, Richard Rabbit and more. The sounds themselves are very clear and last for a few seconds. They are very easy to understand.
The idea of the book is to read the story and press the relevant buttons when you see their pictures, something my 20 month old hasn't got the hang off! He loves to just press the same button over and over again whilst laughing, slightly annoying me and his elder brother! My eldest on the other hand loves doing it and likes the responsibility of pressing the right button at the right time.
The actually story is set on a rainy day when Peppa and George are stuck inside. Lucky for them their friends come round to play and have lunch. The rain does stop and they get to go out and feed the ducks. The story is fairly short but there was enough to keep my son interested.
The set out of the book is quite simple making it easy for my son to follow. Each page has a lovely bright picture with the characters my son loves. The plain black text is presented in a large white bubble with the small square pictures of the relevant buttons underneath. The fact the pictures of the buttons are so simple made it easy for my son to find them on the keypad.
Both my sons have fully enjoyed this book and I am sure they will do for a long time yet. I think any young child likes a book they not only recognise the characters in but can also interact with as well. My eldest son loves all the 18 sounds it makes and often sits alone and goes through each one individually. I found the sound animates the story when you are reading it making it more enjoyable for a little one to sit and listen to.
A Peppa Pig book with eighteen different sounds will be a firm favourite with any Peppa fan. You can currently buy this book for an amazing £7.60 from Amazon instead of the usual £12.99. I would be quite happy to pay the full price for this book something I usually grudge with most books. So at £7.60 I would say it is a bargain.
