As I have said in other reviews my daughter has become a huge Peppa Pig fan. It is the only programme that she will sit and watch at the moment. While in Asda I saw this book on offer for just 50p, I also got two other Peppa books 'Colours' and 'Shapes' for 50p each.
The book is square in shape and about 6 inches making it the perfect size for little hands. The front cover is purple and green and features a picture of Peppa and her brother George. The book is a board book so it is ideal for toddlers.
The book has 7 pages. Each page features a coloured background and a picture with the word describing the picture underneath. The words in the book are boots, puddles, teddy, train, cake, ice cream, car, bicycle, duck, parrot, dinosaur and a fairy. The book is very simple which is why my daughter likes it, like most toddlers she likes simple books with lots of pictures. My daughter particularly likes the dinosaur page as she has started to make a 'raaaa' noise everytime we get to that page, she can also say the word 'Peppa' and she gets very excited seeing Peppa.
We have several books as my daughter seems to prefer books over most of her toys, this one is a good size to keep in the car as she can hold it herself because it isn't too bulky, other books we have can only be read with the help of mummy or daddy.
All in all this is a good book for a Peppa fan for the money. It doesn't have a lot of substance but is ideal to share with your little one and point out the pictures and what they are.
The book is also wipe clean which is ideal as my daughter does tend to make her books sticky. I would give this 4 out of 5 stars some of the words are a bit unusual for a first words book but for 50p I can't complain.
Peppa Pig is fast becoming a favourite of my youngest boy, Lazy Town is still top but he really has taken to Peppa and the gang recently. On a recent shopping trip he spotting this small board book and as he had been good I decided to treat him to it.
The book is only small and measures13cm by 13cm and it is 1 cm thick. The front cover is appealing with the Peppa Pig logo in the top left hand corner and a picture of Peppa and George playing with toys and a bike. At the bottom is the title of the book and this is 'words'. The back cover is purple and just has the book name and the publishing and price details on.
There are only 6 double pages in this book which contain one word on each page. The pages are set out in a very nice way with the edges having a coloured wavy border and the word at the top with a cartoon picture underneath. Some of the words used are parrot, ice-cream, boots, puddles and train. The words are not large ones and are items which children will come across quite regularly in their day to day lives which helps with recognition of them. The small illustrations are all nice and bright and fun to look at.
The sharing of the is book is quite fun and it can be looked at in the usually way of going from page to page and saying what you can see and talking about the letters and sounds or once your child gets familiar with the book then you can ask them to try and find one of the words or pictures. This just gives a different way of sharing so children don't get bored with the book. The time spent reading this book is down to each individual as it can just be shared for a few minutes or much longer if you wish.
The pages are thick and chunky which means that small hands can turn them very easily. I also find this helps as they are not easy to rip. They have a slight sine on them which means that they don't stick together and pages get missed.
We have had a lot of fun with this small book and it has started to go everywhere with us. I have found my 5 year old is also enjoying it as he is able to tell me about the letters he can see in the words and thinks he is very cleaver when he pretends to read the words to his younger brother. This is another bonus with the book as it gives my boys quality time together.
The retail price on the back cover of this book is £3.99 and I think this is way to high. I paid just 79p for this book in my local Home and Bargains store and I would not advise you pay more than £1 for it as there is no story to it. There are other titles available in Home and Bargains too. The book was published by Ladybird and it can be bought from Amazon for a few pounds but again I fell this price is too high.
For what this book is I am going to have to give it the full 5 stars. I knew it was not a story book so was not disappointed and we have had lots of fun sharing it. The quality time with my boys sharing together has been a bonus. Try and find it at a low price like me and treat your Peppa Pig fans.
