My eldest daughter seemed to collect quite a few of the Poppy Cat range of books when she was younger and these have recently been passed down to her younger sister. The books are both written and illustrated by Lara Jones and published by Campbell books, the books have an RRP of £3.99 each which I think is a decent price for a young childs book and this one has the added extra of touch and feel bits.
The front of the book has a bordered edges with pastel coloured rectangles, this border seems to appear on all the board Poppy Cat books. There is a picture of Poppy Cat on the front of the book and her tummy is made of fluffy fabric which my daughter thinks is good as she sits on my knee stroking it saying "ah" The front cover is really brightly coloured which is obviouslya good thing for a baby book to hold their attention.
The book is made of board and has 5 double pages, the first page states "Poppy cat likes swinging" and the picture shows a dog on one side in front of the swing pushing Poppy Cat on a swing on the other side of the page, on this page the inside of Poppy Cats feet are made of a soft white fabric. On the second page of the book it says "Poppy Cat likes to jump" and the picture shows a mouse with a hose pipe and Poppy Cat jumping in a puddle which is made out of blue holographic card, I tilt the book back and forth on this page so that the light shines off the page. The third page says that "Poppy Cat likes dancing" the picture shows Poppy Cat and the mouse from the previous page dancing around and Poppy Cats skirt is made of net which hangs from the page for your child to feel. On the fourth page it states "Poppy cat likes peepo in the tent with owl" the picture shows Poppy Cat in a bright red tent and half the tent is made of material that can be pulled up to reveal owl. The fifth page says "Poppy Cat likes cuddling in a fluffy- puff towel" the picture shows the mouse again in a paddling pool and Poppy Cat wrapped up in a checked towel and some of the checks are made of like bits of towel.
we all seem to like this book, my youngest liked to stroke the fabrics and she loves cats and dogs and when she strokes them she always says "ah" which is what she was doing when we read the book. My eldest daughter sits and reads this book with us and then she tries to read it back to us and as it is a book which only has a few words on each page she is managing some of it which is great. I think this book is a simple story with bright pictures and shows different animals, I think this is a lovely baby book and would recommend any of the Poppy Cat baby books as they are all as good as each other and certainly worth the price tag.
