***Background*** Pocoyo is a real favourite with my son at the moment (as well as with me) and is on the CITV channel at various times throughout the day. This lovable little character has now made it in book form and this is just one of a whole series that you can get your hands on. Pocoyo is the boy in blue who has lots of fun and games with his friends, Loula the puppy, Sleepy Bird, Pato the duck and Elly the pink elephant. Along the way he always learns an important lesson either about a new object he encounters or a social lesson such as the importance of sharing. The ideas in the book have been taken directly from the stories made by the Zinkia company, as have the images. ***The Story*** The story starts by saying hello to Pocoyo and by saying that he has something to show you. Look behind the flap on the page and you can see that its a camera. The book goes on to ask what it is that Pocoyo is taking pictures of and we see something in the distance. Under the flap are the camera and a photograph of a tree. He is then going to take a picture of an apple but the camera disappears and he is left a series of clues in the form of photographs. First of all a pink foot, then some wheels and finally a blue backpack. Pocoyo thinks it might be Loulas paw but he finds its not the same. He thinks the wheels might be from Patos skateboard but soon realises they are different too. He then recognises the backpack and realises that everything belongs to Elly. He finds Elly who has the camera and then decides to take a photograph of all his friends. The story ends with a picture under the flap of his friends with bits of their bodies missing but they all think its a lovely photograph. ***The Pictures*** These are taken directly from screen shots and each page has a bright white background so the characters colours seem to jump off the page at you. The simple text is a plain black print with good font size for young toddlers to look at. The flaps are quite thick in this book and and the wipe clean cover makes it great for toddlers. ***My Thoughts*** Pocoyo is a really lovable little character who is brought to life on television with the narration of Stephen Fry. I must admit when I am reading this book, I have his distinctive voice in my head as I do so, which is a little bit strange. The good thing about this book is that it keeps to the format of the television show and children who are fans of the show will not be disappointed by a change of style. The story is simple and pictures match this perfectly. The expressions on the little modelling clay figures are brilliant and these are done by a simple change to the characters mouths and eyes. Children really seem to love flaps and the excitement of trying to guess what is behind each one, adds that little bit extra to any book. They are very cleverly done in this book with words and pictures on the back of the flaps as well as on the page that they hide. The little clues in the photographs that are left for Pocoyo to find are a great way of teaching your child about differences between sizes and colours. This is something else that just gives this book the edge over some other books of this type. Although Pocoyo is a fairly new character, Im sure he will be around for quite some time. Even my dad sits and chuckles at the show when my son is watching it at his granddads house. If you havent had any experience of him yet then I suggest you look out for this series of books. ***Other Pocoyo Books*** Pocoyo and Friends Pocoyo Discovers Colours Pocoyo can Count Pocoyo Discovers First Words Pocoyo and the Toppling Tower ***Price and Availability*** This book is published at the price of £3.99 but is available at Tesco for only £3.59.
