A couple of years ago my best friend Sarah bought my kids, what I thought, was a really lovely, unusual and imaginative present, a keepsake if you will.
I had until today not really given a second thought until I received a leaflet with the beginnings of my Christmas in a box. (This is what I call my first yearly order from Studio cards!)
Inside my order was the usual material, a delivery note for the enclosed goods, another order form and reams of leaflets for useless and expensive things, ie the scratch card that is always a winner but to claim your Caribbean holiday for twelve you have to ring a premium phone number for three days solid, ok a slight exaggeration but never the less.
This time I found a leaflet for the afore mentioned gift so thought I would share it with you!
The product I will now review is the "my adventures personalised story books"
The book that my daughter received was a Disney princess book, perfect for her at the time as it is pink and features a picture of the stars of the stories held within, across the top of the front cover is the brand name "My adventures with Disney" and under that the title of the book " Princess collection", so far so good.
To be honest when she first opened this gift it was, along with the other hundred gifts that she received, piled up on the settee, so she could move onto opening the other gifts that surrounded us! It wasn't until boxing day that she read through the book and realised it was entirely personal to her, this fact was completely ground breaking and incredible to her!
The book consists of three stories, each story staring a Disney princess and of course your child.
When ordering the specific book you want, you will be asked, or you will enter on the screen, depending whether you ring the company direct or order via the net, specific questions about the child the book is being given to.
These are - name, age, date of birth, place of birth, parents names, siblings names and ages, and home address .
These are then cleverly woven into the standard story enclosed within the book, the first instance was the fact that Ariel the mermaid, (the little mermaid by Disney) was playing on the beach with her best friend Kaitlin Ellie until Kaitlin's mother, Sarah, told her to come home for tea.
The story then progresses onto the wicked Ursula from the film trying to encapture Ariels Prince, but her evil plans are thwarted by Ariel and.... Yes you've guessed it, my baby Kaitlin!
Well this story was a complete revelation to her, this book was her reading material of choice for no less than three months solid!
Every night for her bedtime story I had to re-read her adventures with her new friends Ariel, Cinderella and Finally Briar Rose (sleeping beauty).
For the final touch, the book has a section on the first inside page that allows the giver of the gift, to have a, what can only be described as a printed gift tag, complete with names of giver(s), the date it was purchased and the reason it was bought, ie for years my aunty bought us a book each for Christmas, and for some reason always put that it was Christmas... and what ever year it was, the book has the same option.
There are a good few books to choose from that can be personalised, although the majority are Disney books these include - Cars, Fairies, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, Winnie the Pooh, Snow White and the seven dwarfs and Toy story 2.
There are e few other books to choose from including various Sesame street books, a pirates of the Caribbean book, various dinosaur books and a rather cheap looking book about Santa. I'm sorry I know I have raved so far about these books, but the truth is if you purchase one of the "none Disney" books, they do not seem to be of the same quality.
The only problem that I feel I should mention is the fact that the pages started falling out of my daughters book about a month after she had it, I'm afraid I cannot comment on whether this due to general wear and tear or if this was a fault with her particular book. My son was given the Winnie the Pooh book at the same time, but due to the fact he was only 11 months old, I put it up for safe keeping, this hasn't lost any pages, but I anticipate it will, when the destructive little monster gets his hands on it!
The books vary slightly in price - Disney book, regular size - £9.99
Large size £12.99
The cheap looking books - regular size £6.99
Large size -£10.99
I cannot comment on the difference in book sizes, the book my daughter received is the regular size and it is a paperback.
Another thing to mention is the actual quality of the book, the pages are nice and thick, with a matt coating on them.
The pictures are colourful and very detailed and fill the entire page with the text being centred within the picture.
And the stories themselves, regardless of the fact that your child's name and information appears in them, are nice to read and keep reasonably faithful to the original films they are taken from.
All in all, these are a lovely gift to give to a child and trust me they will be enthralled and amazed for months!
