Shopaholic Abroad - Sophie Kinsella
Advantages: A LOT!
I love Sophie Kinsella's books!I could easily say that along with Paige Toon and one or two others , she is one of my alltime favourite authors. I was first introduced to her work when I read her book ' Can You Keep A Secret?' which I thoroughly enjoyed , and ever since then I have kept an eye out for more of her books. I especially like her Shopaholic series , having read most of the books in the series. One of the books which I have read from the series is one called 'Shopaholic Abroad'.
According to Becky ,the main character (the shopaholic who this story is about )is a changed woman! She is no longer a shopaholic , she's paid off her debt , has a great career , and a wonderful partner. It's great news for her , when her husbands job takes him over to New York to work ; it also has some exciting opportunities for Becky too. Although , will she be able to resist the temptation of all those shops in New York? Read Shopaholic Abroad to find out!
I really enjoyed this book and it is definetely of the same high standard as the other books in the series. I love how gripping this story is as it's just so interesting (I have always wanted to go to New York , and with this book I get to see it through a mad-shopaholic's eyes). Once I started reading this book , I just could not put it down as it is just so entertaining and addictive. It only took me around two hours to read the whole thing , and after a while I would say 'Right , one more chapter and then bed' , but I would be so facinated by it I would just have to read on and on until eventually I had finished it.
It is such a girlie book ; so predictable yet so sweet and funny at the same time. What I like is that the plot moves on so quickly , although not so fast that you can't keep up with the events , nor too slow that it becomes a bore , it just has a perfect pace. This book is so entertaining , yet makes a nice bit of light reading. It's perfect for reading whilst chilling just before bed , although if you're like me , you won't get any sleep until you've finished the whole thing ; it's that addictive!
I love the main character Becky Bloomwood. She is so over the top , yet you just can't help but love her. I think if she were a real person , she would really get on my nerves , but as a fictional character , you can't dislike her. I like how the book is written , so that it feels like Becky is your best friend and whatever the character goes through , the reader goes through too. The character is so hilarious that when I was reading the book , on many occasions I found myself laughing out loud. The story is so over the top and dramatic , yet the way that it is written just makes it seem so believable.
I really enjoyed this book. If you loved the other books in the Shopaholic series , or loved the film Confessions Of A Shopaholic which is based on the books then you will love this! I can't wait for Sophie Kinsella to write more books! If you havn't read any of the other books , then it isn't that important that you read all the previous ones before attempting this one ,although by reading the first one , it may give you a better understanding. Although , I myself didn't read the books in the correct order , yet still managed to fully understand what was happening.
I would definetely recommend this book to all chick-lit lovers!
Thanks for reading!
