Snuggletime Sleepy Baby
I love reading to our little boy, he loves turning the pages and particularly likes touchy-feely books and I find that Usbourne Books do the most fabulous range of these sort of books.
Although Jake has very many books at home we often visit our local library and borrow a few more and this was one of our most recent finds.
Snuggletime Sleepy Baby is a quality strong board book at approximately 16cm x 16cm in size. The front cover has a picture of a small baby sitting with his 'snuggle' blanket and some soft toys. The blanket is textured, touchy-feely. This, along with the title, gives the impression that this book is perfect for bedtime reading.
The first double page shows a little boy pulling off his socks (don't they just love doing that), surrounded by some toys. The text reads 'It's time to get undressed sleepy baby. The socks are textured.
The second double page shows the child in the bath-tub full of bubbles. The text reads 'It's time for your bath, sleepy baby. Splish, splosh.' Baby is holding a textured flannelette wash mit.
The third double page reads 'It's time to brush your teeth, sleepy baby. Brush, brush. The baby is shown brushing his teeth, in a textured towelling nappy.
The next double page shows baby reading a book and rubbing his sleepy eyes with the text 'It's time to read your book, sleepy baby'. Baby is cuddled up with some soft toys and the bunny has the most fluffy pink ears!
The final double page is, you guessed it... 'It's time to say night night, sleepy baby', with baby in bed with the textured snuggle blanket.
This is a lovely book, that I enjoy reading to Jake and I have found my self saying very similar words and phrases during the actions listed, which is the 'routine' we follow at bedtime anyway. Jake seems to catch on and giggles when I say them, as he does when I read the book to him at bedtime. He likes to touch and feel the textured bits.
With an rrp of £5.99 this is a bit much, but its would be a lovely gift for a new baby, I would have been thrilled to receive this. Instead, I will make do from the library for now and then will probably re-hire it in a couple of months... see if it still makes Jake giggle.
The illustrations are lovely, very cute and there are lots of soft toys / animals to point out to your little one to help them learn.
