Nice little book for young children.

I ordered a book for my daughter from Amazon called 'I Feel Happy'. The book is by Little Learners and is part of their 'Slide and See' series of books. Other books in the series include I Can Share, I Am Busy and I Am Big.

I wasn't too sure what to expect from the book as the front cover was cute but pretty vague. The front cover has the title 'I Feel Happy' and an illustration of 2 cats looking happy! When the book arrived I was pleased to see that the book and the pages were thick and durable. It can also be wiped clean which is essential for a young children's book.

I Feel Happy isn't so much a story but more a book about feelings and emotions. It covers such feelings as happiness, sadness, love, excitement, boredom and shyness. Each page has a pull-out picture and an opposite feeling to what is on the page (For example: 'I feel SCARED when I climb too high...I feel BRAVE when I can get down by myself'. 'I feel HUNGRY when I see yummy things...I feel FULL when I eat them all!').

My daughter loved the pull-out aspect to the book and I'm sure most young children would also enjoy this aspect. It's an opportunity to interact with the book and ensures they don't get distracted. The pull-out pictures have tabs on. The tabs are chunky and easy enough for little fingers to use. Every now and again the pull-out pictures do get stuck (you need to give them a wiggle), but usually they're fine. The length of the book is about right and I feel the theme of the book is simple but effective. Not only does it cover different feelings that young children can relate to but it covers opposites too.

The illustrations are really lovely and the animal characters are very cute. The writing is big and bold which is useful for adults but also useful for reading beginners (my now 5 year old can read most words in the book). I've have read this book quite a few times with my daughter and she enjoys it, although I think she's too old for it now. I would recommend 'I Feel Happy' to children 1-4 years.

It's not likely to ever go down as a 'classic' but it's nice enough!

The RRP is £4.99 but it's currently selling on Amazon for a reasonable £3.74, with free delivery.
