Advantages: Great fun, wonderfully illustrated, easy to read
Disadvantages: None- my daughter loves this!
Splat is the creation of childrens author, Rob Scotton who has written several books about his cat's colourful adventures. In this first book, Splat is supposed to be going to school for his first day but is understandably nervous. Not sure what to expect, he decides to sneak his best friend, pet mouse Seymour, into school hidden in his luncbox. But once there, Splat is made to feel very welcome by the teacher Mrs.Wimpydimple and all the other kitty cats and soon forgets his nerves.
One of the first things he is taught however, is that Cats chase Mice so when Seymour manages to escape, as you can well imagine, chaos ensues. Fortunately, by working together, Seymour and Splat are able to turn things around and end up saving the day from ending in complete and utter mayhem!
This is a great book and one we got as part of a boxset for christmas. Emilie, my daughter, loves the silly and colourful illustrations that accompany the story which are all very well drawn and help to convey the story perfectly! And what makes it even better is that there is a kind of moral to the story and a very simple narrative that is easy even for young children to follow.
Splat is a great character, wonderfully created, and I look forward to reading more books in the series as well as Scotton's other childrens book, Russell The Sheep which apparently is just as good and as much fun if not more to read!
Two thumbs up then from this household......
Summary: Splat needs a friend to help him through his first day at school!
