My 17 month old son now has a huge collection of books, so many so that his book drawer has recently collapsed. He does however have a real interest for books, even more so when they have some form of special effects such as Ten Chuckling Ducklings by Sally Crabtree.
My parents bought him this book a while ago and it was a hit right from the very start as he has a fascination with ducks, or "quack quacks"!
Ten Chuckling Ducklings by Sally Crabtree is a board book, though the pages are not as thick as the average board book.
Each page has cut out holes, beneath which are ten rubber ducklings. As we move through the book the number of ducklings deplete one by one, as a duckling is situated on each page.
To the top right hand corner is a sound chip which emits the sound of a duck quacking in a chuckling fasion. The button states 'make the ducklings chuckle!'
The story is written in verse and is great fun to read. It has a certain rhythm to it that will make you want to read it time and time again. The verse basically tells us about ten chuckling ducklings who are exploring their surroundings. One by one they are distracted by other animals around them, predominantly farm animals, and their number depletes until we are left with just one. At the end of course all ten ducklings return to mummy duck.
This book teaches numeracy skills as well as rhyming words. The added sound effects and inserted rubber ducks will keep your little one's interest and make it all the more fun to read together.
My little boy adores this book. He presses the sound chip and explores the little ducklings with his hands as we read it to him. Reading this book to him once is simply not enough, he will bring it back to us time and time again.
Ten Chuckling Duckling has an RRP of £8.99, although it is available from Amazon at just £6.74. This is a lovely addition to his ever-growing book collection and one that I would highly recommend.
