Advantages: Bright colourful, textured pages
Disadvantages: None
By now my baby girl has a well establised bedtime routine that involves sharing two short books with her before she goes to sleep. Obviously her concentration is limited so the books that I chose have to be bright, colourful and not too long. One present that my little girl received this Christmas from her grandparents was this Usbourne book 'That's not my angel' which is part of the Usbourne Touchy Feely Book range, of which I now have three. These books usually retail at around the £3 or £4 mark, which I think is pretty good value as they are hard backed, meaning they should last a lot longer than a paperback, especially when your baby wants to put everything in their mouth.
As can be seen from the picture at the top of the screen, this is a book about an angel, and therefore this is ultimately a Christmas related book, however I see no reason why it can't be used throughout the year, and in fact I plan to continue to use this until my daughter wants to look at longer books. This angel that is on the front cover is at the top of the tree, and the books takes you through a variety of angels with different features until you find the correct angel that is right for the tree.
The great thing about this range of books is the touchy feely parts. My daughter is almost at the stage where she can reach out and touch the parts of the page that are textured. Within this book there are a range of textures on each page on each of the different angels such as bumpy slippers, squashy sleeves, soft hair etc etc At the very end of the book, the real angel is known by her fluffy white wings.
These books are not long which is perfect for a young baby who will only concentrate for a short time, and in fact my daughter will look at this book the entire way through without getting distracted. She loves looking at all the bright and colourful images on the page and when she is more coordinated she will be able to fully appreciate the different textures on the pages which she can touch.
This is a lovely book to share with a baby, especially around Christmas time, but in fact I think it could be shared throughout the year. This is a really lovely range of books from Usbourne, priced very well and very suitable for encouraging even the youngest child will an enjoyment of books from an early age.
