Advantages: Bright pictures, holds child's attention

Disadvantages: The books can be a bit 'samey'

We are now starting to amass quite the collection of these 'That's not my....' baby hardback books, as they are a very popular choice with my 9 month old daughter who is mesmerized by them. Recently, with a little bit of money left on an Amazon voucher, I thought I would get her another of these books, and saw this one 'That's not my fairy' which I thought she would like, given that she is a girl, and she loves one about an angel which she got last CHristmas.

All these books are part of the Usbourne Touchy Feely books, and have all been written by Fiona Watt and illustrated by Rachel Wells, so all of the books follow a similar storyline with similar brightly coloured pictures.

As I would have expected this book is very girly and is bright pink in colour. Each page features a different fairy with something for the child to feel and touch, this ranges from bumpy slippers, to frizzy hair, as well as a smooth crown and fluffy wings. On each page, there is a little mouse (as with all the books) who is searching for his/her 'fairy', which is why each page starts with 'That's not my fairy...' and the mouse finds something that makes this fairy not the right one.

My daughter is now at the stage where she loves to feel the different textures on the page and enjoys studying and feeling every picture, so these books really hold her attention, but even if your child isn't at that stage, they will still enjoy the story, as my little girl has enjoyed these books since she was 3 months old or so, which I think was always due to the large bright pictures.

THe only negative I have about these books as a whole is that although in one way it is good that there is a consistency to the books, this one seemed a bit 'samey' and I thought some of the things such as the fluffy wings were a repeat of other books in the range, so I was a tad disappointed, even though my daughter loved it from the moment I first read it to her. So all in all, this is still a lovely range of books for young children and babies and certainly a big hit with my daughter.

Summary: A good book from a good collection
