That's Not My Santa - Fiona Watt
Advantages: The perfect christmas book
Disadvantages: It is very short
That's not my Santa is a baby/toddler book that is - as can be guessed by the name - aimed towards the festive period. We have owned this book for several years now and it was primarily bought for my daughter around the time of her first Christmas. For many a years this book has sat on the book shelf but as my daughter has been getting into the festive spirit over the past couple of weeks this book has become one of her favourites for bed time.
The book is primarily designed for young children/babies and I would suggest it be suitable for babies from the age of 1 plus. Saying that my daughter is almost 4 and she seems to enjoy it more now than she ever did. This is a board book and contains 5 double sided, hardback pages. The size of the book is very much appropriate for small hands and is approximately the size of a cd case with each page being rather chunky and thick making them easy to turn.
This book is a touch and feel book and the main story throughout the book is aimed around different textured sections that you can feel. The book has 5 double pages, each double page containing a different thing to feel. Every page of the book starts by saying "that's not my Santa" It then goes on to give a reason. For example; "that's not my Santa ... his sack is too rough. There is then a picture of Santa with a sack on his back which feels very rough. Another example includes; "that's not my Santa ... his gloves are too fuzzy. The picture then shows Santa's hands pulling out presents from a sack and his gloves feel extremely fuzzy and rough. The book concludes by finding the right Santa, they know this because his beard is so soft. The page then has a picture of Santa with a very soft feeling and bushy looking beard.
The book is very simple and basic and that's why I would primarily say that this is mainly aimed as a sensory book for young babies/toddlers. It does however, as I have already pointed out provides for a very festive book for older children too. The illustrations within the book and the general design is very simple with minimal intricate detail but it is done beautifully either way and is designed mainly to entice that of babies. Every page contains not only beautifully illustrated pictures but also further detail to enhance the pictures such as bright colours and most pages are very sparkly. The touch and feel part of the book is also done very well and each one is different and entertaining.
I find the story of this book to be simple yet it still happens to be fun and it is great for a range of ages. The quality of this book is also fantastic, we have had it for many years and I have yet to come across any problems such as wear and tear, rips or any issues with the touch and feel sections. It is very sturdy and very robust which is excellent as it is designed for babies and toddlers with heavy hands and a rough touch. Overall I would highly recommend this book, its perfect for getting into the Christmas spirit even if it is only a short story. Costing £3.50 on Amazon it won't break the bank either. The perfect book for getting everybody in to the Christmas spirit.
Summary: I would highly reccomend
