The Clue of the Screeching Owl is the 41st book in the series of Hardy Boys books, released under the pen name Franklin W Dixon but written by a number of different ghost writers. The book is well written on the whole, and is one of the more believable of the later books in the original series. The latter half of the series tended to be a bit more extravagant with its plots, and saw the heroes, brothers Frank and Joe Hardy, going off on missions that would be far more suited to adults, whether they be trained investigators, law officials or just your average Joe.
