The Lion King - Walt Disney
Advantages: A book that will last for years!
When I was a child I had several of these Disney books that my mum had collected from a book club for me. Unfortunately I don't know what happened to the books. When my daughter was born I saw a leaflet in my Bounty pack I was given at hospital saying that you could have 6 books for free and then each month you would be sent 2 books which you could then decide to keep or send back.
I love reading and my daughter is also a huge book fan so I wanted to collect as many books as possible for her. The books cost £8.98 per month for 2 books.
The Lion King is one of my daughters favourite Disney films. She has really taken a shine to lions and it was the first animal noise that she was able to make. We have collected various Lion King toys and we have the 3 Lion King DVD's.
The books are hardback but the pages are paper. As my daughter is only 14 months we read these books together and they are put away out of her reach when not in use.
The story of the Lion King is one I am sure most people are familiar with it follows the journey of Simba the lion cub who can't wait until the day that he is king and take his place in the circle of life. But his jealous uncle Scar has other plans and thinks that he should be king. Simba is forced into exile while Scar takes over the kingdom. While in exile Simba learns about friendship with his newfound friends Timon the meerkat and Pumba the warthog. Eventually someone from Simba's past gives him the bravery and courage he needs to return to pride rock and challenge his evil uncle before taking his rightful place as king.
The book has 42 pages. The book follows along the story of the film each page feature illustrations exactly as they are seen in the film. Also a lot of the quotes in the book are taken directly from the film.
When I read this book to my daughter it really captures her interest she is able to point out the characters from the film and relate the story to her Lion King toys. The story features a short paragraph on each page which allows me to discuss the pictures with my daughter without her getting bored or losing interest. My daughter is still only little but I like reading to her as I feel it is important for her development. I enjoy reading these books myself as her toddler books are mainly one word and a picture which when you get pestered to read the same book over and over can become boring.
I would definately recommend this book and the others in the collection it's called the 'Wonderful World of Disney'. I have collected over 40 books now and I know that they will grow with my daughter as when she is older she will be able to read them to herself. Disney books are classics which can be enjoyed by girls and boys so I would definately recommend this book 5 out of 5 from us.
Summary: A great book to read together!
