When I bought spot helps out at the library for 40p I also bought kippers book of opposites by Mick Inkpen. Kipper is a lovable brown and white dog with dark brown floppy ears he is a popular addition to many a Childs bookcase at home or school A lot of books about kipper have an educational slant, kippers book of colours, kippers book of the weather, kippers book of counting, kippers kite. Some are small hardback books, some are touchy feely books, and some are paperbacks. Kipper is also available on video where he can be seen romping across your screen I enjoy reading kipper books to the children at work. The touchy feely ones are good for the little blind girl we have. Help her to be involved in story time. The drawings are simple readily identified objects, bright and colourful. The words clearly written and simple for children starting to read. Suitable for children aged 2 to 8 years Let me describe kippers book of opposites. A small hard, board book9 pages long r.r.p. £2.99. On the first page kipper stands proudly holding a red ball with yellow spots on wrapping paper at his feet. The word “”new” is printed at the top of the page. The opposite page picture of kipper surrounded by balls with the red ball deflated in his mouth. The word “old” printed at the top of the page. Next page kipper is peering round a laundry bin looking at a sock on the floo r. The word “out” printed at the top of the page. The opposite page kipper is peeping out of the top of the laundry bin with the sock in his mouth. The word” in” is printed at the top of the page Turn the page and kipper is smiling as he happily skips along with a green balloon .the word” happy” printed at the top of the peg. On the opposite page the word “sad” printed at the top of the page and underneath a kipper ears down turne
d a sad look on his face, holding a burst green balloon on the end of a piece of string Turn the page to find kipper clamouring up a tree after a squirrel that is running up the tree. The word up is printed at the side of the tree. The word “up” is printed by the side of the tree. Opposite page kipper is peeping from behind the tree looking down at the ground where the squirrel is just running down the tree. The word “ down” is printed at the side of the tree On the next page we see kipper sat on the floor a tortoise slowly wandering past.”2 The word “slow” printed at the top of the page. On the opposite page we see kipper with a surprised look on his face as a mouse is running past him. The word “fast” is printed at the top of the page. Turn the page and kipper is holding a long stick The word printed on this page is” long”. Opposite is kipper kneeling on the floor holding a short stick. The word “short” is printed on this page. Turn over and we see kipper hugging a big teddy bear The word “big” is on this page kipper is looking across at the other page where a small teddy bear sits with the word “small”. The next page has kipper looking out of a window at a butterfly with a blue sky reflected in his window the word “day” is printed at the top of the page, opposite on the last page kipper is looking out of the window at a dark sky and the moon and the stars. The word “night” is written here This is a good book to read with children encourage them to describe the objects, or for children to look at read by themselves. Other books by kipper contain similar topics and word some a few more words on the pages I shall be watching my library for other kipper books to buy for Adrian. Although they are not too expensive some are the £2.9
