The Very Hungry Caterpillar Finger Puppet Book - Eric Carle
I recall reading this book to my children when they were little and now I enjoy reading it to my grandchildren. When I saw this finger puppet book I couldn't resist it.
The story of The Hungry Caterpillar tells of a little friendly looking creature who eats all kinds of food and then gets tummy ache. The caterpillar makes a cocoon where it stays for a long time... when it leaves the cocoon it's become a big, beautiful butterfly!
It's a very simple story but it is made exciting by the pages being different sizes so that it's almost like a lift and flap book. The foods that the caterpillar eats through have holes in them too which is always interesting for little children to try poking their fingers through.
In this book the caterpillar has a face which is a finger puppet. You put your finger in through the back page and you can wriggle the head around. This goes through each page so you can pretend to munch your way through all the foods as you turn the pages.
My grandchildren adore this book. They like the original one and love this one even more as they try to put their fingers into the puppet and make it move around. It definitely creates a great deal of enjoyment and laughter making story time even more engaging.
I think this is a lovely way to engage children in reading, it's already a very popular book and this extra element makes it even better. I paid £5 for this and think it's very good value for money.
It's made from board so it's toddler friendly as it can't be ripped or give paper cuts. A lovely book which would make a good gift too.
