English is not my first language and therefore my daughter being raised bilingual. It is very important to me for her to understand and speak my language as well as English so my family which lives abroad can communicate with her. I am therefore always on a lookout for new books that will help me to teach her my language as well as English. I do buy bilingual books when I am visiting my parent however we live in the UK and so I buy a lot of Sofia's book just in English.
My daughter picked this book up few months ago from WH Smith. I wanted to have a look at some new books for her, I quite often go to book stores to have a look at the books I like or Sofia likes and then purchase it on-line which is almost always cheaper. I find children books prices can be extortionate in some shops.
I was not aware of Katie Saunders who illustrated this book, but found out (by quickly searching the net) that she first had her picture published in the magazine when she was just 5 years old. She worked as an art and drama teacher before becoming a full-time illustrator of children's books and greetings cards.
This book is a hard copy which is great as Sofia is 19 months old and sometimes does not handle her book with care meaning that some of her non hard back books have had pages torn or creased. Book cover is yellow in colour with picture of cheeky looking monkey. The main character of this book is cheeky monkey who went swinging through the flowers, green leaves, shimmery scaly snake, knobbly bug and grumpy crocodile. Monkey at the end will find its way back to his home and bananas.
I do like the way this book has been illustrated, it is definitely eye catching and packed full with different textures and colours. In my opinion this is an excellent book for the child's development. Each page only has one or two sentence on it so it is a short story which was fine by me up until recently Sofia would not sit still if there was too much to read on each page as she wanted to quickly look at the next pages. Book is jam packed with touchy feely flowers, leaves, snake, bugs, bananas and more each being different colours and textures.
Sofia loves this book she has had it for a while but she still has interest in it and keeps bringing it to me to read it to her. She loves it when I ask her to find me things within the book.
I would definitely recommend this book, as Sofia is getting older she find interest in another books especially in the new ones I buy but I still think it was well worth buying.
I brought it from WH Smith for £5.99 and it is available from other books stores or on-line stores for about £5, currently on Amazon just under fiver.
There are other titles in this series such as Touch and Feel Little Fish, Little Rabbit, Little Bear to name a few.
